[Grilled Cheese]

Photographs of the 2009-2010 artist's book competition honorable mention "Grilled Cheese" created by Carlynn Field. The book is a sculptural representation of a grilled cheese sandwich made of yellow fabric, printed fabric, hand-dyed silk, and batting. When opened, the "cheese" is revealed to be a long accordion-folded strip of cloth, each panel with an embroidered representation of the steps to make a grilled cheese sandwich. The volume is presented on a blue heavy plastic circular plate. The first image is of the grilled cheese sitting on a blue paper plate. Image 2, the grilled cheese is laying on a blue plate, one of the "slices" sticking out has a flower-like print. Image 3, the cloth grilled cheese pages are opened up to the yellow inside, the page on the left has a white flower pattern with orange dots around it. Stitched onto the page are the words "2 min" the number 5, and a little pan stitched under it. [The Thin Etched Line]

Photographs of the 1999-2000 artist's book competition honorable mention "The Thin Etched Line" created by Teel Savage. The volume is composed of fragments of intaglio prints of various styles and subjects, on which a single red line was added across every image. It is bound in white paper-covered boards with a red line, sewn Coptic style. The first image shows the bound book opened up. [The Better to See You With]

Photographs of the 2001-2002 artist's book competition winner "The Better to See You With" created by Herman Iselin. Wolf fur binding and embroidered red velvet end papers enclose pages with the story of Little Red Riding Hood embossed in Braille. The book was designed as a concept piece, which would allow a blind child to experience the story of Little Red Riding Hood. The cover of the book is a square shaped blob of grey fur.
