Technical manual: operation and equipment instructions for in situ impulse test (open access)

Technical manual: operation and equipment instructions for in situ impulse test

This manual describes the test equipment and procedures for a new field test which determines the shear modulus of a soil deposit at strain levels equivalent to those experienced during actual earthquakes. Results from this test are typically used as input parameters to response analyses for evaluating local soil effects during earthquake shaking. The test employs a cross-hole wave propagation procedure with velocity transducers located in closely spaced adjacent borings. Clear, consistent, and repeatable data in all types of soil and a method of data reduction different from conventional geophysical first arrival techniques are unique aspects of this new test. In addition to describing the principles of the test and data reduction procedures, major discussions of the field procedures are also included. Detailed drilling and testing information is provided both for planning and executing a test program.

Technical Manual For Estimating Low-Flow Frequency Characteristics of Streams in the Susquehanna River Basin (open access)

Technical Manual For Estimating Low-Flow Frequency Characteristics of Streams in the Susquehanna River Basin

Abstract: This report presents procedures for estimating low-flow frequency characteristics for streams in the Susquehanna River basin. The techniques can be used at ungaged sites as well as sites where insufficient data are available to make a reliable estimate. Streams have been divided into two types major and minor. Major streams are the Susquehanna, West Branch Susquehanna, Juniata, and Chemung Rivers. Points on these streams with drainage areas of more than 2,000 square miles (5,180 kilometers) are included in this category. Points on these streams with drainage areas of less than 2,000 square miles fall into the minor stream category. Generally minor streams are herein defined as those draining less than 2,000 square miles (5,180 kilometers). Multiple-regression techniques have been used to develop relations for estimating the 1-, 3-, 7-, 30-, and 183-day duration low flows at recurrence intervals of 10, 20, 50 and 100 years for annual series data and the 1-, 3-, 7-, and 30-day duration low flows, at the same recurrence intervals, for six individual months, May through October, inclusive.

Preparation of radiological effluent technical specifications for nuclear power plants. a guidance manual for users of standard technical specifications

The purpose of this manual is to describe methods found acceptable to the staff of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) for the calculation of certain key values required in the preparation of proposed radiological effluent Technical Specifications using the Standard Technical Specifications for light-water-cooled nuclear power plants. This manual also provides guidance to applicants for operating licenses for nuclear power plants in the preparation of proposed radiological effluent Technical Specifications or in preparing requests for changes to existing radiological effluent Technical Specifications for operating licenses. The manual additionally describes current staff positions on the methodology for estimating radiation exposure due to the release of radioactive materials in effluents and on the administrative control of radioactive waste treatment systems.

This paper is to present a student interior design laboratory manual for Perspective Drawing 134. A mechanical and freehand approach to the grid method of perspective is used. Chapter I reviews the significance of the problem, definitions of terms of perspective, data sources and method of procedure. Chanter II explains a brief overview of perspective from primitive man to its present use in interior design. Chapter III reviews the general principles of perspective. Chapter IV presents the grid method to one-point and two-point perspective, both mechanical and freehand approaches. Included are step by step illustrations and explanations of the method. Chapter V summarizes the intent of this study.

Material control system simulator user's manual

This report describes the use of a Material Control System Simulator (MCSS) program for determination of material accounting uncertainty and system response to particular adversary action sequences that constitute plausible material diversion attempts. The program is intended for use in situations where randomness, uncertainty, or interaction of adversary actions and material control system components make it difficult to assess safeguards effectiveness against particular material diversion attempts.

Material control system simulator program reference manual

A description is presented of a Material Control System Simulator (MCSS) program for determination of material accounting uncertainty and system response to particular adversary action sequences that constitute plausible material diversion attempts. The program is intended for use in situations where randomness, uncertainty, or interaction of adversary actions and material control system components make it difficult to assess safeguards effectiveness against particular material diversion attempts. Although MCSS may be used independently in the design or analysis of material handling and processing systems, it has been tailored toward the determination of material accountability and the response of material control systems to adversary action sequences.

PERCOL user's manual (open access)

PERCOL user's manual

For Atlantic Richfield Hanford Co., Richland, Wash. Research being conducted under the Radionuclides in Soils Program is attempting to predict the distribution and movement of liquid wastes in the heterogeneous subsurface environment of the Hanford Reservation. As part of this program, a transport model is being developed to predict chemical phenomena in soil-waste reactions. This document describes the use of the PERCOL model, which was developed as a simplified one-dimensional precursor to the transport model. PERCOL numerically describes the complex chemical reactions which occur during percolation of a waste solution through a porous media. This User's Manual describes the main program (PERCOL) and two subroutines MEWTIT and DIST) and gives procedures for accessing these programs, inputting data to them and interpreting the output. Energy management manual (open access)

Energy management manual

The Jacarilla reservation lies on the San Juan Basin in New Mexico, with vast oil and gas deposits, actively developed since the late 1950s. Constraints on Tribal regulation of energy development are discussed in Section I. Section II describes the relationship between Federal agencies and the Tribe; identifies energy management problems; recommends management activities to address the problems; and points out skill requirements. The Tribe has now adopted a formal statement of goals and objectives for its minerals management program and details of the program are described in Section III. Information on the legal analysis of oil and gas development on the land of the Tribe is given in the appendix. (MCW)

TWOZONE users manual (open access)

TWOZONE users manual

TWOZONE is a computer program written in the summer of 1975 to analyze the heating and cooling loads of single family residences for the purpose of investigating the effect on energy consumption of various changes in building design, construction and management. The program evaluates the annual energy demand taking into account: various amounts, types and location of glass areas in a house; different wall and roof constructions; various amounts and locations of insulation; scheduled thermostat settings; and other changes in the building envelope. The model differentiates between the thermal behavior of the north and south zones of a house (hence the name TWOZONE). This manual describes the most recent version of TWOZONE which includes many new features (e.g., ventilation strategies, evaporative cooler, improved air-conditioner algorithm, ability to read Cal-ERDA weather tapes, user-specified tilting of the roof, an economics subroutine etc.).

Energy management manual

The Pueblo of Laguna lies in the Grants Uranium Belt. The Grants belt is the source of more than half of all uranium produced in the US. Currently the Pueblo has development agreements with Conoco and Anaconda. Only the Anaconda leasehold has been developed - an open pit mine and 2 underground mines. The Pueblo has several areas of concern in managing mineral development. These include monitoring and enforcing performance standards, and taxing severance of uranium from the land. Constraints on tribal regulation of energy development are discussed in Chapter 1. Energy management program needs of the Pueblo of Laguna are discussed in Chapter 2. Chapter three contains the energy management plan to be used by the Pueblo as it formulates and implements an energy development and management strategy. (DMC)
