Newspaper Metadata Manual
This document describes the process that the University of North Texas (UNT) Libraries' Digital Newspaper Unit (DNU) uses to create metadata for the scanned newspapers published on The Portal to Texas History as part of the Texas Digital Newspaper Program (TDNP). High quality metadata helps users find what they want more quickly. Over time, accurate descriptive metadata fosters trust among the Portal's user community.

Technical Memorandum: Lewisville Lake Watershed Protection and Management Strategies
With a current population of just over half a million and a 2030 projected population of approximately one million, expansion throughout Denton County shows no sign of slowing down (NCTCOG). Increasingly, freshwater resources are also facing increased pressure from this urban expansion. Effective assessment and management techniques are necessary to protect the diversity of ecosystem services found within fluvial ecosystems and to mitigate current and future conditions of environmental stressor amplified by urban development. The use of various spatial analysis techniques in environmental assessment present more expedient, cost effective, and broader ranging methods of evaluation than traditional field techniques. One such novel evaluation technique is the Water Quality Corridor Management (WQCM) model, developed by the University of North Texas in cooperation with the Upper Trinity Regional Water District (UTRWD). The WQCM model is a geospatial database that utilizes GIS and remote sensing techniques to assess and prioritize stream reaches according to their overall health and sustainability. This project assessed the viability of the WQCM model in reviewing the status of stream systems, and ultimately, established an accurate mechanism for evaluating the stream corridor and surface water quality draining into Lewisville Lake, a popular recreation site and drinking water source for …

Quantitative Analysis of Water and Biological Samples for Determination of Haleogenated Organics in the Upper Trinity River, Texas : Final Technical Report
This study had three objectives: 1) to develop a method for the quantitative determination of total organic bound chlorine in water and biological samples using Source-Excited X-Ray Fluorescence, 2) to provide training in the use of analytical techniques for students from different disciplines, and 3) to use an interdisciplinary approach involving students of biology, chemistry, and physics to investigate a complex environmental problem. Only the first objective is treated in detail in this volume.

Automating the Authority Control Process
Presentation for Ohio Valley Group of Technical Services Librarians Annual Conference 2019. This presentation argues that Authority control is an important part of cataloging since it helps provide consistent access to names, titles, subjects, and genre/forms. There are a variety of methods for providing authority control, ranging from manual, time-consuming processes to automated processes. However, the automated processes often seem out of reach for small libraries when it comes to using a pricey vendor or needing a cataloger with particular expertise. The presentation introduces several ideas on how to handle authority control using a variety of tools, both paid and free. It also describes how their library handles authority control; compare vendors and programs that can be used to provide varying levels of authority control; and demonstrate a few methods of providing some authority control for free using MarcEdit.

Enhancing the Discovery of Tabletop Games
Collections of three-dimensional materials may not be discoverable to library users if they lack adequate metadata. Discovery of these collections may be enhanced through the application of relevant cataloging standards and con-trolled vocabularies. This paper outlines how librarians at the University of North Texas Libraries used these strategies to increase access to a large collection of tabletop games.

The chemical coupling between moist CO oxidation and gas-phase potassium sulfation
Article discusses how the chemical coupling between moist CO oxidation and transformation of gaseous potassium salts (KCl or KOH) in the presence and absence of SO2 was investigated experimentally and through chemical kinetic modeling. Analysis of the calculations indicates that sulfation pathways in the model involving KOSO3 contribute to the overprediction, but both the thermodynamic properties and rate constants in the model involve significant uncertainties and more work is required to resolve the discrepancy.
