HEMP user's manual
A computer program to solve the conservation equations of twodimensional elastic-plastic flow has been implemented at LLL on the CDC 7600 machine. The program, named HEMP, is written in an expanded FORTRAN IV language. This user's manual explains the operation and use of the program. A section is provided that will aid in converting the program to other machines and systems. (auth)

PERCOL user's manual
For Atlantic Richfield Hanford Co., Richland, Wash. Research being conducted under the Radionuclides in Soils Program is attempting to predict the distribution and movement of liquid wastes in the heterogeneous subsurface environment of the Hanford Reservation. As part of this program, a transport model is being developed to predict chemical phenomena in soil-waste reactions. This document describes the use of the PERCOL model, which was developed as a simplified one-dimensional precursor to the transport model. PERCOL numerically describes the complex chemical reactions which occur during percolation of a waste solution through a porous media. This User's Manual describes the main program (PERCOL) and two subroutines MEWTIT and DIST) and gives procedures for accessing these programs, inputting data to them and interpreting the output. Radioecology of Some Natural Organisms and Systems in Colorado. Eleventh Technical Progress Report, May 1, 1972--April 30, 1973
The broad purpose of this research is to provide information on the behavior of radionuclides in, and radiation sensitivity of, selected organisms and natural ecosystems in Colorado. Components of alpine tundra, montane forests, shortgrass plains, and freshwater lakes and streams are currently under investigation with respect to behavior and effects of radionuclides. Data are presented from studies on the content of /sup 238/Pu and /sup 239/Pu in samples of soil, litter, vegetation, and tissues of mule deer, rodents, and birds collected in the vicinity of Rocky Flats; the content of fallout /sup 137/Cs and / sup 90/Sr in the tissues of mule deer and in forage samples; the migration of / sup 137/Cs through food chains in a lake ecosystem; tracer studies of energy flow from the dominant grass of the shortgrass plains, Bouteloua gracilis, through arthropod consumers, using /sup 32/P as the tracer and grasshoppers as the test organism; and the effects of gamma radiation from a large /sup 137/Cs source on arthropods, microorganisms, and soil chemistry of a chronic irradiation field. Survey of available technology for auditing $sup 235$U enrichment in cascade equipment
A search for possible nondestructive techniques which might be utilized by a safeguards inspection team for auditing /sup 235/U enrichment of UF/sub 6/ in gaseous diffusion cascade equipment without access to the UF/sub 6/ itself was carried out at the ORGDP. The work included a literature survey of safeguards techniques in use by others, and a search for other methods or equipment which might be applied to the present objective. Various possible methods are evaluated briefly. Probable limited access to cascade equipment precludes the use of methods involving bulky equipment, including neutron and gamma generators, coincident or anticoincident counters and high energy isotopic neutron sources of sufficient strength to produce a measurable fission rate in /sup 238/U which requires large shields. Irradiation with low energy neutrons followed by detection of fission events and passive gamma measurements could provide information on the /sup 235/U content, but not on the 2/sup 238/U. Two methods upon which preliminary investigations were carried out are considered to warrant further development. The first involves a direct measurement of the /sup 235/U gamma radiation from UF/sub 6/ within a pipe and a measurement of the absorption of gamma rays from an external gamma source when these rays …

Material Property Investigation for Project Middle Gust, Events 4 and 5: Report 1, Subsurface Exploration and Laboratory Test Results
This report documents the results of a site investigation conducted to support a program of free-field ground shock calculations and field operations for Project MIDDLE GUST, Events IV and V. The site is characterized by a 28-ft-thick section of weathered clay shale (CH) overlying approximately 650 ft of competent clay shale of the Pierre Formation which overlies older sedimentary rocks.
