A Study to Determine the Effectiveness of the Apprenticeship Training Programs Operated by the Craft Trades in Dallas

"The purpose of the study is twofold. First, to determine the effectiveness of the apprenticeship training program in selected building crafts in the Dallas metropolitan area during the period September 1959 to June 1967. In order to arrive at a point of determination concerning the effectiveness of the apprenticeship, it will be necessary to delve into the organization, administration, and implementation of the apprenticeship training program as operated by the Dallas Independent School District in cooperation with the craft trades and their respective labor unions. This will include a study of apprenticeship committees, curriculum, methods of selection of apprentices, and qualifications of instructors for apprenticeship training programs. Second, to determine any weaknesses in the training programs which may exist and to make recommendations for improvement of the program." -- p. 3

The Effects of Preregistration Advisement of Students by a Counselor on the Choice of College Majors and Other Selected Criterion Measures (open access)

The Effects of Preregistration Advisement of Students by a Counselor on the Choice of College Majors and Other Selected Criterion Measures

The problem for consideration in this study was an investigation of the effects of two methods of preregistration advisement of junior college freshmen. Specifically, the following questions were posed. What would be the effects on college students of an individual preregistration advisement interview with a member of the professional counseling staff as compared to a group advisement session? Would the advisement interview for students produce differences in (1) the types of majors selected, (2) probabilities of success in declared educational objectives, (3) perceptions of the environment, (4) changes of major, (5) course changes, (6) failures to complete registration, (7) withdrawals during the first eight weeks of classes, and (8) number of course deficiencies reported at mid-semester? An auxiliary consideration was the following. What would be the effects of providing information about technical-occupational programs in the form of brochures?

The Effects of Multisensory Perceptual Training on Reading and Perceptual Development at the First-Grade Level (open access)

The Effects of Multisensory Perceptual Training on Reading and Perceptual Development at the First-Grade Level

This was a study designed to investigate the effects of three independent variables in first-grade reading instruction on reading achievement and perceptual development. The independent variables included initial readiness level, type of instructional method, and sex of pupil. The major purpose of this study was to use an experimental setting to determine the relative effects of a multi-sensory perceptual training program combined with a basal-instruction program, as contrasted to an entirely conventional basal-reading program, on first-grade reading achievement and perceptual development during a school year.

A Systematic Approach to Corporate Planning (open access)

A Systematic Approach to Corporate Planning

The fundamental purpose of this dissertation is to determine the extent to which many of the corporations within the United States are implementing formalized planning processes. The conditions surrounding the corporation have caused the movement toward a more systematic approach to corporate planning since there appears to be no better substitute for a formalized planning process to help assure the survival and growth of the firm.

Three Recitals of Music by German and Danish Composers, J.S. Bach, and Contemporary North American Composers, and a Lecture Recital on the Registration of Orchestral Textures in Organ Music (open access)

Three Recitals of Music by German and Danish Composers, J.S. Bach, and Contemporary North American Composers, and a Lecture Recital on the Registration of Orchestral Textures in Organ Music

Four contrasting recitals were presented to fulfill the requirements for the degree Doctor of Musical Arts. The first recital contained music of miscellaneous composers. Two Preludes and Fugues by the North German Baroque composers Vincent Libeck and Dietrich Buxtehude were separated by Samuel Scheidt's Variations on the Netherlands folk song "Ach du feiner Reiter". The Brahms Chorale Prelude "0 wie selig seid ihr doch, ihr Frommen" and the Louis Vierne "Intermezzo" from the Third Symphony represented Romantic-style composition. The major work of the program was the Carl Nielsen Commotio, a large work in orchestral style. The second recital consisted completely of music by J. S. Bach. Four works of contrasting styles were presented: Concerto, Opus 3, No. 8, composed by Antonio Vivaldi and transcribed by Bach, Partita on Sie gegrisset, Jesu gtig, Sonata IV, and Fantasy and Fugue in G Minor. The third recital was the lecture recital: Registration of Orchestral Textures in Organ Music. This lecture was an attempt to deal with the contemporary problem in performance practice of registration of Romantic organ music. The trends in organ building in the twentieth century have ranged from a deeper exploration of the possibilities of the Romantic organ to the reevaluation …

Social Area Analysis and Transportation Patterns: Dallas, Texas, 1960

When the heterogeneity of the city is considered, the sociological implications which stem from this heterogeneity become important to understanding the social structure of the city. One of these sociological implications is intrinsic in the patterns of transportation. This is an ecological study of the structure and changing structure of parts of the city. We will study the relationship between two variables; social area characteristics and patterns of transportation.
