Mineral Industry of Alaska in 1939

From Introduction: "The presentation of a yearly record of the Alaska mineral industry is a continuing service that has been rendered by the Geological Survey from almost the earliest years of extensive mining in Alaska, and the present report for 1939, is the thirty-sixth of this series. These reports therefore serve miners, prospectors, and businessmen concerned with Alaska affairs as useful historical records, statements of contemporary conditions, and starting points on which some conjectures concerning future operations may be predicated."

Geology of the Coastal Plain of South Carolina (open access)

Geology of the Coastal Plain of South Carolina

From abstract: The Coastal Plain of South Carolina extends from the Atlantic Ocean inland a distance ranging from 120 to 150 miles to the Fall Line, where it adjoins the Piedmont province. It includes an area of more than 20,000 square miles, or nearly two-thirds of the State, whose total area is 30,981 square miles, of which 494 square miles is water. The geographic divisions of the Coastal Plain are the marine coastal terraces, or "low country", which stand less than 270 feet above sea level, and the Aiken Plateau, the High Hills of Santee, the Richland red hills, and the Congaree sand hills.

Mineral Industry of Alaska in 1938 (open access)

Mineral Industry of Alaska in 1938

From introduction: The presentation of a yearly record of the Alaska mineral industry is a continuing service that has been rendered by the Geological Survey from almost the earliest years of extensive mining in Alaska, and the present report, for 1938, is the thirty-fifth of this series. 2 Such a record, especially when supplemented by the statistics for the preceding years, not only affords an authoritative summary of current 'and past conditions but also indicates trends that are of significance in suggesting the lines along which future developments of the industry are likely to proceed. These reports therefore serve miners, prospectors, and businessmen concerned with Alaska affairs as useful historical records, statements of contemporary conditions, and starting points on which some conjectures concerning future operations may be predicated.

Mineral Resources of the Mount Grafton Wilderness Study Area, Lincoln and White Pine Counties, Nevada

From abstract: The Mount Grafton Wilderness Study Area (NV- 040-169) is in a remote area of the Schell Creek Range, Nevada. In 1984 and 1985 the U.S. Geological Survey and the U.S. Bureau of Mines evaluated the identified mineral resources and mineral resource potential of approximately 30,115 acres of the study area at the request of the U.S. Bureau of Land Management. The study area contains identified low-grade resources of zinc and tungsten. The study area has a low potential for oil and gas, uranium and thorium, and geothermal and clay resources.

Geology and Mineral Deposits of the Venezuelan Guayana Shield (open access)

Geology and Mineral Deposits of the Venezuelan Guayana Shield

Abstract: The U.S. Geological Survey and the Corporación Venezolana de Guayana, Técnica Minera, C.A., conducted a cooperative mapping, exploration, and mineral resource estimation study in Venezuela from 1987 to 1992. The work was conducted in the Venezuelan Guayana Shield, an Archean to Early and Middle Proterozoic craton in southern and eastern Venezuela of almost 415,000 km2 that is mostly covered by jungle and savanna. Results obtained from this project contribute a new understanding of the geology and evolution of the Venezuelan Guayana Shield and the nature of its mineral occurrences. Personnel from Técnica Minera, C.A., were trained both in the field and in the office to conduct modern mineral exploration and geologic mapping and research programs. This five-year project was supported financially by the Corporación Venezolana de Guayana.
