Examples of such programs are: air monitoring; surface contamination monitoring; personal contamination surveys; radiobioassay; and dose assessment. The objectives of the internal dosimetry program are to demonstrate that the workplace is under control and that workers are not being exposed to radioactive material, and to detect and assess inadvertent intakes in the workplace. The Savannah River Site Internal Dosimetry Technical Basis Manual (TBM) is intended to provide a technical and philosophical discussion of the radiobioassay and dose assessment aspects of the internal dosimetry program. Detailed information on air, surface, and personal contamination surveillance programs is not given in this manual except for how these programs interface with routine and special bioassay programs.

FRMAC Assessment Manual (open access)

FRMAC Assessment Manual

The ingestion pathway assessment procedures cited in the current version of the ``RMAC Assessment Manual'', DOE/NV/11718-061 (September 1996) have been superseded by new US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) guidance. This addendum replaces the obsolete procedures with a revised set based on the new guidance released by the FDA in August 1998. This addendum provides an overview of the new guidance, revised assessment methods, and assessment aids. It does not provide a general method of ingestion pathway analysis. The scope is limited to that covered by the new guidance titled, ``Accidental Radioactive Contamination of Human Food and Animal Feeds: Recommendations for State and Local Agencies,'' issued by the FDA in August 1998.

TAO users manual. (open access)

TAO users manual.

The Toolkit for Advanced Optimization (TAO) focuses on the design and implementation of component-based optimization software for the solution of large-scale optimization applications on high-performance architectures. Their approach is motivated by the scattered support for parallel computations and lack of reuse of linear algebra software in currently available optimization software. The TAO design allows the reuse of toolkits that provide lower-level support (parallel sparse matrix data structures, preconditioners, solvers), and thus they are able to build on top of these toolkits instead of having to redevelop code. The advantages in terms of efficiency and development time are significant. The TAO design philosophy uses object-oriented techniques of data and state encapsulation, abstract classes, and limited inheritance to create a flexible optimization toolkit. This chapter provides a short introduction to the design philosophy by describing the objectives in TAO and the importance of this design. Since a major concern in the TAO project is the performance and scalability of optimization algorithms on large problems, they also present some performance results.

HADES User's Manual (open access)

HADES User's Manual

HADES is a computer code that simulates transmission radiography through a mesh and/or solid bodies. This code is a successor to an old code called XRAY. HADES is designed to be backward compatible with XRAY (i.e. it will accept and correctly parse XRAY input decks), but HADES has many more features that greatly enhance its versatility and its simulation of experimental effects. HADES can simulate X-Ray radiography, neutron radiography or GeV proton radiography using ray-tracing techniques. A short article has been published which discusses HADES' capabilities. HADES also has some capability for simulating pinhole imaging and backlight imaging. The best way to obtain HADES is to ask one of the authors for a copy. This manual covers all features in version 2.5.0 of HADES.

ZAP user's manual (open access)

ZAP user's manual

The use and content of Phase I of the accelerator physics code ZAP, which calculates the performance of a storage ring in terms of the effects of beam intensity dependent phenomena and the limitations they impose. A brief overview is provided of the code and the types of calculations that can be performed with it. The types of calculations available include: single bunch thresholds, single bunch longitudinal parameters and energy scaling tables, longitudinal coupled-bunch instabilities, transverse coupled-bunch instabilities, gas scattering lifetime, free electron laser formulae, intrabeam scattering, Touschek scattering, and ion trapping formulae. Examples of the required inputs and resultant outputs for each of the options are given. The theoretical foundations behind ZAP are summarized, providing the relevant formulations, physical models, and particularly the equations used in the code in evaluating the various effects that are computed. Manual on indoor air quality (open access)

Manual on indoor air quality

This reference manual was prepared to assist electric utilities in helping homeowners, builders, and new home buyers to understand a broad range of issues related to indoor air quality. The manual is directed to technically knowledgeable persons employed by utility companies - the customer service or marketing representative, applications engineer, or technician - who may not have specific expertise in indoor air quality issues. In addition to providing monitoring and control techniques, the manual summarizes the link between pollutant concentrations, air exchange, and energy conservation and describes the characteristics and health effects of selected pollutants. Where technical information is too lengthy or complex for inclusion in this volume, reference sources are given. Information for this manual was gathered from technical studies, manufacturers' information, and other materials from professional societies, institutes, and associations. The aim has been to provide objective technical and descriptive information that can be used by utility personnel to make informed decisions about indoor air quality issues.
