HADES User's Manual (open access)

HADES User's Manual

HADES is a computer code that simulates transmission radiography through a mesh and/or solid bodies. This code is a successor to an old code called XRAY. HADES is designed to be backward compatible with XRAY (i.e. it will accept and correctly parse XRAY input decks), but HADES has many more features that greatly enhance its versatility and its simulation of experimental effects. HADES can simulate X-Ray radiography, neutron radiography or GeV proton radiography using ray-tracing techniques. A short article has been published which discusses HADES' capabilities. HADES also has some capability for simulating pinhole imaging and backlight imaging. The best way to obtain HADES is to ask one of the authors for a copy. This manual covers all features in version 2.5.0 of HADES.

MPPL Reference Manual (open access)

MPPL Reference Manual

MPPL (''More Productive Programming Language'') allows programmers to write in a language that is more convenient and powerful than Fortran 77. MPPL then transforms statements written in the MPPL language into standard Fortran 77. This language is essentially an extension to Fortran 77 that provides free-form input and many structured constructs such as ''while'' and ''for'' loops. MPPL's macro pre-processor and file-inclusion facility encourage the creation of structured, easy-to-read programs that contain fewer labels. MPPL provides a more productive programming environment for Fortran 77 users on the Unix, Linux, AIX, IRIX, Solairs, HP-UX, Tru64 operating systems. MPPL can be used independently as well as with Basis.

ETD Lifecycle Management Tools Manual (open access)

ETD Lifecycle Management Tools Manual

The IMLS-funded Lifecycle Management of ETDs project has researched, developed, and/or documented a suite of modular Lifecycle Management Tools for curating electronic theses and dissertations (ETDs). The project targeted the following curation activities: Virus Checking, Format Recognition, Preservation Event Record-Keeping, and Simple ETD & Metadata Submission. This manual describes how to implement Lifecycle Management Tools for those activities. The manual is written for ETD Program Managers. It describes a general rationale and use case for each curation activity mentioned above in the context of an ETD program. While the technical and administrative implementations of ETD programs are diverse, this manual includes generalized recommendations for where and when to deploy the tools in an ETD submission workflow. ETD Program Managers are encouraged to coordinate with the full range of stakeholders (including the graduate schools, libraries, campus IT, and vendors) to adapt tools to their implementation.

RadHeat V1 User's Manual (open access)

RadHeat V1 User's Manual

RadHeat is a one dimensional finite difference heat transfer code that can determine the transient temperature evolution of layered targets in pulsed penetrating radiation environments. It makes use of energy dependent opacity and stopping data to model the volumetric deposition of any number of photon or ion spectra each incident at arbitrary angles. Convective and radiative boundary conditions are handled as well as the ability to impose any initial temperature profile. The heat diffusion equation is formulated implicitly to eliminate timestep dependent stability issues. Simulations are, therefore, able to achieve high fidelity during times of thermal activity and greater speed elsewhere. The prototypical physical situation simulated by RadHeat is illustrated. RadHeat was originally written to study the temperature response of tungsten-armored target-facing walls to the pulsed photon and ion radiation emanating from fusion microexplosions in future IFE power plants. RadHeat's implementation is quite general, though, and the code can be applied to a very broad range of problems. Anything from the heating of the Earth's crust on a warm summer day to the temperature rise in a mirror after a laser pulse could potentially be modeled. This manual was written to help new users learn how to run the code …

Demonstration and Validation Assets: User Manual Development

This report documents the development of a database-supported user manual for DEMVAL assets in the NSTI area of operations and focuses on providing comprehensive user information on DEMVAL assets serving businesses with national security technology applications in southern New Mexico. The DEMVAL asset program is being developed as part of the NSPP, funded by both Department of Energy (DOE) and NNSA. This report describes the development of a comprehensive user manual system for delivering indexed DEMVAL asset information to be used in marketing and visibility materials and to NSTI clients, prospective clients, stakeholders, and any person or organization seeking it. The data about area DEMVAL asset providers are organized in an SQL database with updateable application structure that optimizes ease of access and customizes search ability for the user.

A Users manual for the nonlinear kinematic hardening model for cyclic loading (open access)

A Users manual for the nonlinear kinematic hardening model for cyclic loading

This report describes the implementation of the Chaboche type Nonlinear Kinematic Hardening Model developed for the PNGV SPP (Partnership for the Next Generation Vehicle, Spring-back Predictability Project). The material model includes a nonlinear kinematic and isotropic hardening law, transverse anisotropy, strain range memorization for cyclic hardening/softening and viscoplasticity. This report is a companion to the report: ''A Return Mapping Algorithm for Cyclic Viscoplastic Constitutive Models'' which concentrates on the theoretical aspects of the model. This report summarizes the necessary parameters for the model, briefly discusses their interpretation and shows some numerical simulations. The report also specifies the data structure requirements for linking the material model software by explicitly referencing the source code delivered to the SPP collaborators.

Federal Information System Controls Audit Manual (FISCAM)

Guidance issued by the Government Accountability Office with an abstract that begins "FISCAM presents a methodology for performing information system (IS) control audits of federal and other governmental entities in accordance with professional standards. This version supersedes the prior version, Federal Information System Controls Audit Manual: Volume I Financial Statement Audits, AIMD-12.19.6, January 1, 2001. The FISCAM is designed to be used primarily on financial and performance audits and attestation engagements performed in accordance with GAGAS, as presented in Government Auditing Standards (also know as the "Yellow Book"). The FISCAM is consistent with the GAO/PCIE Financial Audit Manual (FAM). Also, FISCAM control activities are consistent with NIST Special Publication 800-53 and all SP800-53 controls have been mapped to the FISCAM. The FISCAM, which is consistent with NIST and other criteria, is organized to facilitate effective and efficient IS control audits. Specifically, the methodology in the FISCAM incorporates the following: (1) A top-down, risk-based approach that considers materiality and significance in determining effective and efficient audit procedures; (2) Evaluation of entitywide controls and their effect on audit risk; (3) Evaluation of general controls and their pervasive impact on business process application controls; (4) Evaluation of security management at all levels (entitywide, …
