This work provides a history of the Protestant fundamentalist movement in Texas, beginning with the 1890's and progressing to the 1970's, but it emphasizes the controversial decade of the 1920's. Although it is a narrative account it also attempts to analyze the reasons for the movement's development, while evaluating its impact on the state.

This study is devoted to a critical examination of the architectural structure and sculpture of the church of San Cayetano de La Valenciana in Guanajuato, Mexico, concentrating on the ornamentation of the exterior portals and the interior altar retables. This paper traces the development of the Churrigueresque phase within the Baroque period of Mexican religious architecture and analyzes specific application of this style to the church of La Valenciana. Stylistic and iconographic components are discussed and a review of significant literature on this subject is included.

The purpose of the study was to write a history of the professional career of D. O. Wiley as a music educator from 1921 to 1963. To give focus to the career of Wiley, answers were sought to three questions, stated as sub-problems: (1) What were the important events and influences in the professional career of D. O. Wiley as a college/University band director? (2) What impact did Wiley have on the development of Texas public school bands that earned him the title "Father of Texas Bands?" and (3) What role did Wiley play in the development of the Texas Music Educators Association and other professional music organizations.

The purpose of this study is to collect, analyze, and interpret physical and pricing data pertaining to the elemental market structure for grain sorghums in Texas. For comparative purposes, a criterion is established in Chapter IV to evaluate the data obtained. The objective is to deter mine whether the physical and pricing aspects of the Texas grain sorghum market structure conforms to theoretical structural patterns. If there are deviations from the theoretical pattern, explanations will be sought. No attempt will be made in Chapter II, "Physical Structure", and Chapter III, "Pricing Structure", to evaluate the data given, but only to report the functioning characteristics of these aspects.

Twelve freshwater gastropod families, 39 genera and 70 fossil and Recent species are recognized and systematically treated. Keys to the families, genera and species were constructed and all species are illustrated. The purpose of this study was to determine if certain student demographics and measures of previous high school academic achievement could differentiate between students who are successful in remedial and college level English and algebra courses and students who are unsuccessful in those courses.

The purpose of this study is to trace the role of music and music education in Abilene, Texas, from 1881 to 1911. The research presents historical data relative to five categories: Educational music, cultural music, religious music, music of the vernacular, and music merchandising. The study utilizes personal interviews, newspaper files, city directories, local histories, photographs, city and county documents, school documents, minutes of public school board meetings, minutes of meetings of churches, school catalogues, articles in journals, unpublished works, and published books.

The National Guard in America began in the Revolutionary War. The Texas units resulted from the earlier concept and emerged in 1835 to resist Mexican oppression. Following achievement of statehood, Texas militiamen served in the Mexican War, the Civil War, and the Spanish-American War. As the twentieth century began, Texans had a long history of service in reserve military organizations in spite of a prevailing attitude of contempt for citizen soldiers held by influential regular army officials.

The purposes of this study were to determine freshman composition requirements, to describe organization of writing programs, to describe staffing of writing programs, to identify common textbooks and syllabi requirements, to describe course content and pedagogy, and to describe common goals and philosophies of Texas writing programs.

The holomorphology of ll life stages of 20 western Nearctic Isoperla and one Cascadoperla was studied over the 3-year period 1975-1978. One monotypicgenus new to science, Cascadoperla, is described, and Cascadoperla tricture (Hoppe) designated as the type species. The nymph, adult male and female, and ova are described and illustrated.

The problem of this study was to determine the criteria and procedures used by superintendents of selected public high schools districts in Texas in the selection of high school principals. This study had two main purposes : (1) to ascertain criteria and procedures that the superintendents of selected public school districts of Texas are using in the selection of high school principals, and (2) to make recommendations to improve the selecting of high school principals.

Monitoring nonpoint source pollution in a large area is often impractical. However, estimating nonpoint pollution through use of empirical models such as the Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE) provides a basis for identifying problem areas, and setting management priorities. The initial objective of this research program was to develop a convenient synthesis of the 8-oxadihydropteridine ring system and to test the resulting compounds for antifolate activity in suitable biological systems.

In this investigation, the age and racial characteristics of older inner-city neighborhoods within seven Texas cities are examined. More specifically, a general thesis is developed which suggests that residentially integrated neighborhoods near the core of the city contain a relatively older white population and younger black residents.

The purpose of this study is to trace the development of the concert band from its earliest stages to the present time and to compile a list of original compositions for band that are worthy of serious concert performance, including compositions from 1750 until the present.
