Mrs. Rex Brown, Audrey Kariel, Inagene Bennett and a fourth unidentified member of the Marshall Music Club pose at a music orientation on September 21, 1969. This club influenced the other women's clubs in Marshall to build a public library. Five clubs had jointly owned and operated a private lending library for many years; but they joined the grassroots movement for a public library, which was completed in 1973.

Menu for the Gables Café in Marshall, Texas. It consists of one sheet of textured gray paper folded in half. The type is printed in green ink. The cover includes the name, its location, "Highways 43 and 59, South," that it was adjacent to the Burnett, Henderson, and Bel-Air Motels, that it provided room service to those motels at no additional cost, and that it was open from 5:00 a.m. to 12:00 midnight. On the interior, in addition to providing food items and prices, it identifies "your hosts" as Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Elsberry. It also promises "organ melodies on the Hammond organ, 6:00 to 8:00 P.M." Prices range from 15 cents for a piece of pie to $4.00 for K. C. Sirloin for two. The menu is worn, with some bends, tears, and staining.

Born and reared in Marshall, she received several undergraduate and graduate degrees from Wiley College and the University of Southern California. She taught music in the Marshall Public Schools, 1930-1976. She also taught piano for 44 years at her private studio; was minister of music for 17 years at New Bethel Baptist Church; and was adjunct teacher for 2 years at Wiley College. The image shows her receiving one of several local awards for her long contribution to education.
