The Texas Film Commission and Its Effect on Filmmaking in Texas
The Texas Film Commission has actively been in existence since 1971, yet there has not been any published study that examines its history, how it functions, or its impact on the film industry in Texas. Using information gathered from magazine and newspaper articles, the State laws of Texas, letters from people associated with the Texas Film Commission, and interviews, this study explores these aspects of the Film Commission. Texas has been popular as a filmmaking state since the early 1900's. It was through the interest of the State legislators that a film commission was established in Texas. Guidelines for the Texas Film Commission are described in the State Statutes of Texas. The goal of the Texas Film Commission is to encourage and promote both out-of-state and in-state production. It does receive assistance in promoting Texas as a filmmaking state from other State agencies, but is solely responsible for increasing Texas' popularity with filmmakers through marketing seminars and advertising campaigns.

Calcium Aluminates Synthesis, Characterization, and Hydration Behavior
The hydration behavior of the calcium aluminates as a function of the glass content, the curing temperature, and the water-solid ratio was investigated. In order to keep them from influencing the results, the free-lime content and the surface area of all samples were kept constant, whenever possible. Samples were hydrated with a water-solid ratio of 10/1 for periods of 1 to 90 days. Three curing temperatures were studied; 2°C, 25°C, and 50°C. Samples were hydrated in tightly sealed polyethylene containers to prevent reactions with atmospheric carbon dioxide. The hydration was followed by X-ray diffraction and thermal analysis. Only two samples, Hexacalcium Tetra-alumino Magnesium Silicate and Tricalcium Magnesium Dialuminate, were successfully prepared in an amorphous form. These compounds were used to investigate the effect of glass content on the hydration behavior. Results indicate that when the glass content is increased a corresponding increase is found in the percent combined water. Samples hydrated at 25°C were influenced by changes in the glass content to a greater degree than were those hydrated at either 2°C or 50°C. The effect of the water-solid ratio on the hydration behavior of the calcium aluminates was studied using the compounds; Hexacalcium Tetra-Alumino Magnesium Silicate/ and Dodecacalcium Hepta-Aluminate. …

Intradermal and Systemic Response of Immunized Mice to Mycobacterial Glycopeptidolipids
Glycopeptidolipid (GPL) antigens isolated from Mycobacterium intracellulare were used to sensitize BALB/c mice. Primary footpad challenge of mice sensitized with GPL antigens suspended in phosphate buffered saline demonstrated an increased footpad swelling reaction.

Economic Development of the Oil and Natural Gas Sector in Bahrain
The problem with which this investigation is concerned is determining the viability of economic development in the oil and natural gas sector in Bahrain since its independence in August 1971, and the changing role of the government in shaping oil policies and managing downstream operations. This inquiry emphasizes the importance of cooperation and coordination in the oil industry among the Arab Gulf States. This study concludes that Bahrain's economy is passing through and era which will have one of two possible endings: one will protect the independence of the country and promote cooperation with the other Arab Gulf States as a transitional stage toward a board regional unity; the other will lead Bahrain to become a commercial outlet for Saudi Arabia.

The Reforms of Beauford Halbert Jester's Administration, 1947-1949
Beauford Halbert Jester, thirty-sixth governor of Texas, had served nearly six months of his second term when he died on July 11, 1949. He tends to be remembered as the only Texas governor to die in office, but his accomplishments deserve greater recognition. Elected as the Establishment candidate in a bitter campaign against a liberal opponent, Jester had a surprisingly progressive administration. During his tenure the state generally expanded its services, began a prison reform program, reorganized the public school system, began an ambitious farm-to-market road program, attempted a new approach to juvenile delinquency, expanded educational opportunities for blacks, created a legislative redistricting board, and established a building fund for state-supported colleges and universities.
