National Uranium Resource Evaluation: Tularosa Quadrangle, New Mexico

From Purpose and Scope: "The Tularosa Quadrangle (2º), New Mexico (Fig. 1), was evaluated to identify geologic units and delineate specific areas that have characteristics favorable for occurrence of uranium deposits. All geologic environments to a depth of 1500 m were evaluated by means of surface investigations and examination of geophysical well logs."

Salt in the Ochoa Series, New Mexico and Texas (open access)

Salt in the Ochoa Series, New Mexico and Texas

The following report is a synopsis of readily available information on the mineralogy, thickness and areal extent of soluble salt deposits in the Ochoa series of Permian age in southeastern New Mexico and western Texas. It's part of a more extensive investigation of salt being carried out by the U.S. Geological Survey in connection with its Investigation of Geologic Processes project on behalf of the Division of Research, U.S. Atomic Energy Commission.

Preliminary Study of Favorability for Uranium of the Sangre de Cristo Formation in the Las Vegas Basin, Northeastern New Mexico (open access)

Preliminary Study of Favorability for Uranium of the Sangre de Cristo Formation in the Las Vegas Basin, Northeastern New Mexico

This report presents the results of a preliminary study of the uranium favorability of the Sangre de Cristo Formation (Pennsylvanian-Permian) in the Las Vegas basin, northeastern New Mexico. Because known uranium deposits are confined mainly to the Sangre de Cristo, the following discussions are limited to this formation. The study focuses on sedimentologic and stratigraphic characteristics relevant to uranium deposition. The investigation was conducted by Bendix Field Engineering Corporation (BFEC) on behalf of the U.S. Energy Research and Development Administration (ERDA).

Preliminary Study of the Uranium Potential of Tertiary Rock in the Central San Juan Basin, New Mexico (open access)

Preliminary Study of the Uranium Potential of Tertiary Rock in the Central San Juan Basin, New Mexico

Three formations in the Tertiary of the San Juan Basin were investigated for their uranium favorability. They are the Ojo Alamo Sandstone, the Nacimiento Formation, and the San Jose Formation. The study comprised a literature survey and a basin analysis, which consisted of subsurface lithofacies, stratigraphic, and radiometric mapping. Field work in preparation for the subsurface analysis consisted of examination of outcrop and measured sections, surface radiometric traverses, and checking of reported surface radioactive anomalies.

Long-Term Surveillance Plan for the Shiprock Disposal Site, Shiprock, New Mexico (open access)

Long-Term Surveillance Plan for the Shiprock Disposal Site, Shiprock, New Mexico

The long-term surveillance plan (LTSP) for the Shiprock, New Mexico, Uranium Mill Tailings Remedial Action (UMTRA) Project disposal site describes the surveillance activities for the Shiprock disposal cell. The US Department of Energy (DOE) will carry out these activities to ensure that the disposal cell continues to function as designed. This final LTSP is being submitted to the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) as a requirement for issuance of a general license for custody and long-term care for the disposal site. The general license requires that the disposal cell be cared for in accordance with the provisions of this LTSP. This Shiprock, New Mexico, LTSP documents whether the land and interests are owned by the US or an Indian tribe and describes in detail the long-term care program through the UMTRA Project Office.
