Ground-Water Quality in the Western Snake River Basin, Swan Falls to Glenns Ferry, Idaho (open access)

Ground-Water Quality in the Western Snake River Basin, Swan Falls to Glenns Ferry, Idaho

From purposes and approach of study: The primary purposes of this study were to: (1) Define, on a reconnaissance level, current (1980) water-quality conditions in major aquifers (water-yielding rock formations) in the western Snake River basin, Swan Falls to Glenns Ferry; (2) summarize and interpret available geologic and hydrologic data to assist in understanding the natural and man-cause factors that affect present and future understanding the natural and man-caused factors that affect present and future water-quality conditions; and (3) establish a hydrologic data base on which future data can be compared to evaluate changes. A secondary purpose was to evaluate the possible effects percolation of thermal water applied for irrigation may have on the quality of local, less mineralized, nonthermal ground water.

Favorability for Uranium in Tertiary Sedimentary Rocks, Southwestern Montana (open access)

Favorability for Uranium in Tertiary Sedimentary Rocks, Southwestern Montana

The objective of the study was to evaluate the favorability for potential uranium resources in Tertiary and related strata. Past studies indicate that the Tertiary basins in southwestern Montana are worthy of further investigation because (1) several basins contain a thick sequence of continental sedimentary rocks, (2) several basins are near possible granitic source rocks that have known uranium occurrences, and (3) some of the Montana basins are geologically similar to basins in Wyoming that are host to important sandstone-type deposits. This study focuses on sedimentary rocks of Tertiary age, but includes some rocks of Late Cretaceous and Pleistocene ages. In some areas only a portion of the total Tertiary sedimentary section could be studied because of poor surface exposures and limited subsurface information.

Uranium Favorability of the San Rafael Swell Area, East-Central Utah

Purpose and scope: The purpose of this study was to delineate new areas favorable for uranium exploration in the San Rafael Swell region of east-central Utah. Emphasis was placed on the sandstone and siltstone members of the lower Chinle Formation (Triassic) and on the Salt Wash and Brushy Basin Members of the Morrison Formation (Jurassic). The White Rim Sandstone (Permian) was also studied, but not extensively. This project began in January 1976 and was completed in March 1977. Field work was conducted during the five-month period from February through June 1976.

Preliminary Study of the Uranium Potential of the Dan River Triassic Basin System, North Carolina and Virginia

From summary: A preliminary geologic investigation was conducted to determine the uranium potential of the Triassic strata in the Dan River basin system (Dan River, Danville, and Davie County Triassic basins) of North Carolina and Virginia. The pre-Triassic Inner Piedmont basement rocks adjacent to the basins were investigated as potential sources of uranium. Outcrops of Triassic and basement rocks were examined and measured for surface radioactivity by scintillometer. Representative rock and saprolite samples were collected for laboratory analyses.
