The problem in this study is two-fold: (1) to determine the effects of a democratic curriculum upon the educational growth of first-grade children; and (2) to show that, through living the democratic life, the first-grade children developed behavior patterns that fitted them to live more wholesome lives.

The purpose of this study was to determine whether emphasis on aesthetic development appeared to foster educational growth and desirable behavior development to a greater degree than did participation in a traditional-type program.

The purpose of this study was to make a critical evaluation of the school plant of Union Grove High School in Upshur County, Texas, in regards to health and safety environment.

The purposes of this study are (1) to make a comparison of the stipulated, assigned, and acquired duties of the head football coaches of Class AA high schools within a radius of 115 miles of Grand Prairie, Texas; and (2) to make a comparison of the stipulated, assigned, and acquired duties of the assistant football coaches of Class AA high schools within a radius of 115 miles of Grand Prairie, Texas.

The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of the use of filmstrips as an aid in teaching reading to a group of first grade children in the Tom Bean Consolidated School. A further purpose, and probably the most important as it deals with the ultimate objective of education, is the effect that visual aid has upon the behavior of boys and girls.

The problem is actually twofold: first, to trace the growth and development of vocational education programs operating in the evening schools of the State of Texas; second, to analyze some of the various types of evening school programs and facilities provided for conducting adult vocational evening schools.

The purposes of this study are to make an investigation of practices used in a number of selected schools in selecting library materials for the school libraries and to evaluate these practices against criteria developed from a study of recommended standards and practices in the fields of library science and education.

The purpose of the investigation is to present--chronologically, whenever possible--the growth of the Canadian oil industry from the days of earliest discovery to the present, with an eye on both historical growth and potential development.

The main body of this thesis is composed of four chapters: Chapter II is concerned with the development of the oil industry in Texas prior to the discovery of Spindletop; Chapter III deals with Spindletop; Chapter IV sets forth the later developments of the oil industry in Southeast Texas or Railroad Commission District No. 3; Chapter V is the concluding chapter, complete with summary, evaluation present status and future possibilities of the oil industry in Southeast Texas.

This thesis is a serological investigation of actinomycetes as a preliminary to taxonomic study.

The primary purpose of this study was to develop the considerations and techniques for the selection, development, and validation of laboratory experience units in general biology for prospective elementary school teachers. The completed laboratory experience unites developed in this study may serve as resources of activities for college instructors who teach general biology to undergraduate majors in elementary education. For purposes of this study the laboratory experience unites were centered about those principles of general biology which an elementary school teacher should understand in order to teach about plants and animals.

This problem includes, first, the isolation and identification of microorganisms which utilized the hydrocarbon insecticide as a sole source of carbon and energy; second, a determination of the effect on plants sprayed with the hydrocarbon medium as compared with the effect on plants sprayed with the hydrocarbon medium containing a good growth of hydrocarbon-utilizers; and third, a determination of the ability of laboratory stock cultures of organisms to utilize or remain alive in the hydrocarbon medium.

"This paper is the result of a study of the oil industry in Cooke County Texas. Consideration was given to the following factors: the physiography and geology of Cooke County, the first oil developments, opening of various fields, the Tydal Refinery, and the benefits of the oil industry to the county in terms of employment, busines establishments, schools, and social efforts. Both persona and documentary source were utilized for obtaining data on the present problem. Primary sources included statements made by land owners of Cooke County, oil operators, drillers, refinery personnel, business men, civic leaders, and the superintendents of schools, both in Gainesville, Texas, and in Cooke County. In each chapter except Chapters I and VII, effort has been made to locate the origin of that particular industry and trace its development. In order to understand the development in the raising of livestock, farming, transportation, natural resources, and the growth of major cities of the region, it would be well to understand the physical aspects of the region.

It is the purpose of this investigation to improve upon techniques to enhance the taste of municipal water and attempt to devise one that could desorb the compounds from carbon in an unaltered state. It was decided that the odor character would be the criterion used to decide if the eluted compounds were the same as those in the raw water.
