Safety Issues with Hydrogen as a Vehicle Fuel (open access)

Safety Issues with Hydrogen as a Vehicle Fuel

This report is an initial effort to identify and evaluate safety issues associated with the use of hydrogen as a vehicle fuel in automobiles. Several forms of hydrogen have been considered: gas, liquid, slush, and hydrides. The safety issues have been discussed, beginning with properties of hydrogen and the phenomenology of hydrogen combustion. Safety-related operating experiences with hydrogen vehicles have been summarized to identify concerns that must be addressed in future design activities and to support probabilistic risk assessment. Also, applicable codes, standards, and regulations pertaining to hydrogen usage and refueling have been identified and are briefly discussed. This report serves as a safety foundation for any future hydrogen safety work, such as a safety analysis or a probabilistic risk assessment.

John Buchan (1875-1940) and the First World War: A Scot's Career in Imperial Britain

Access: Use of this item is restricted to the UNT Community
This dissertation examines the political career of Scottish-born John Buchan (1875-1940) who, through the avenue of the British Empire, formed political alliances that enabled him to enter into the power circles of the British government. Buchan's involvement in governmental service is illustrative of the political and financial advantages Scots sought in Imperial service. Sources include Buchan's published works, collections of correspondence, personal papers, and diaries in the holdings of the National Library of Scotland, Edinburgh. Letters and other documents pertaining to Buchan's life and career are also available in the Beaverbrook papers, Lloyd George papers, and Strachey papers at the House of Lords Record Office, London, and in the Liddle Hart Collection at King's College, London. Documents concerning Buchan's association with the War Cabinet, the Foreign Office, and the Department of Information are among those preserved at the Public Record Office, London. References to Buchan's association with the British Expeditionary Force in France are included in the holdings of the Intelligence Corps Museum, Ashford, Kent. The study is arranged chronologically, and discusses Buchan's Scottish heritage, his education, his assignment on Lord Alfred Milner's staff in South Africa, and his appointment as Director of the Department of Information during World War …

Constructions: An Investigation into Childhood From a Perspective of Loss (open access)

Constructions: An Investigation into Childhood From a Perspective of Loss

The interaction of the construction and the images was the focus of my proposed exploration. Previously, I viewed the images as the vehicle for content with little thought to the construction. I thought of the construction as a painter might think of his or her canvas, a place for the images to reside. The relationship between constructions as part of my content is essential. Exploration of form and image will push the limits of how the images and constructions may interact. Now that I was conscious of the construction being included in the content, I wanted to discover how the ideation process would change. I was also hoping to determine how the imagery would be affected by the redirection of my decision making process concerning the construction as part of the content.
