From abstract: Uranium minerals were discovered in the Pumpkin Buttes area, Campbell and Johnson Counties by the U. S. Geological Survey in October 1951. From June to November 1952, an area of about 750 square miles was examined for uranium deposits, and 211 localities with abnormally high radioactivity were found; uranium minerals are visible at 121 of these localities.

From introduction: During three months of the summer of 1952, a geologic and radiometric reconnaissance examination for uraniferous materials in the peripheral parts of the Powder River structural basin in northeastern Wyoming (fig. 1) was made by the Survey on behalf of the Division of Raw Materials of the U. S. Atomic Energy Commission. The purpose was to find, describe, locate, and sample deposits of uraniferous or radioactive materials other than those in the central part of the Powder River Basin in the general vicinity of the Pumpkin Buttes.

Report discussing a reconnaissance for uranium-bearing carbonaceous rocks during the 1952 field season in 23 areas in Colorado, Utah, Idaho, and Wyoming. From Abstract: "Uranium in small amounts occurs in several of the areas examined, but no deposits were found that might have commercial possibilities."

Abstract: A reconnaissance was made of a large part of the Powder River Basin, Wyoming, during the summer of 1952 to search for uranium deposits in parts of the basin other than the Pumpkin Buttes area. No uranium deposits of economic interest were found, but some rocks of the Tertiary Fort Union formation and the Cretaceous Inyan Kara group were found to be sufficiently uraniferous to justify further search in rocks of these units. Analyses of samples of sandstones, baked shales, and siltstones taken during the reconnaissance show these rocks are considerably more vanadiferous than the average sandstone, or clay and shale.

A report regarding a preliminary reconnaissance survey for thorium, uranium, and rare-earth oxides in the bear lodge mountains, in Crook County, Wyoming. "The purpose of this reconnaissance was to obtain information on the mode of occurrence, extent, and reserves of these deposits. This work was done on behalf of the Division of Raw Materials of the Atomic Energy Commission."

Abstract: "This report, designed to make available to field geologists and others information on identification and occurrence of uranium minerals of the Colorado Plateaus, contains physical properties, X-ray data, and in some instances results of chemical and spectrographic analysis of 24 uranium and 17 vanadium minerals. Also included is a table giving the optical properties of uranium minerals and a list of locations of mines from which the minerals have been identified."
