Preliminary Report on Geologic Investigations in Monument Valley Area, Arizona, 1952
From introduction: A program of uranium investigations and geologic mapping on the Navajo Indian Reservation in Apache and Navajo Counties, northeastern Arizona (fig. 1) was undertaken by the U. S. Geological Survey on behalf of the Atomic Energy Commission during the field seasons of 1951 and 1952. Field work on this program has been completed and preliminary copies of the maps, which cover an area of about 700 square miles, are inclosed as part of this report. The two principal objectives of the program were to establish geologic criteria useful as guides in prospecting for uranium deposits, and to appraise the favorableness of the Shinarump conglomerate and other Triassic rocks for the occurrence of uranium deposits in order to select areas that deserve exploration for concealed deposits.

A Lead-Uranium Deposit at the White Oak No. 1 Mine, Santa Cruz County, Arizona
From abstract: A small quantity of uranium ore was shipped from the White Oak No. 1 mine, Pajarito mining district, Santa Cruz County, Ariz., in 1952. The uranium is associated with oxidized lead ore in a shear zone that cuts rhyolite 'porphyry of Tertiary(?) age. The uranium minerals -- kasolite, uranophane, dumontite, autunite, and possibly radioactive pyromorphite -- are concentrated along small, discontinuous fractures, and accordingly the ore bodies are small and widely dispersed.

Reconnaissance for Radioactivity in the Yuma Air Force Base Gunnery Range, Yuma County, Arizona
From abstract: During part of February and March 1953, reconnaissance examinations for radioactive material were made at 12 localities in the Yuma Air Force Base gunnery range in southern Yuma County, Ariz. The Yuma gunnery range, which is adjacent to the west edge of the Luke and Williams Air Force Bases gunnery range, is characterized by block faulted, elongate mountain ranges composed essentially of schist, gneiss, and granite of pre-Cambrian to Mesozoic age and separated by broad alluvial basins.

Interim Report on Geologic Investigations in the Monument Valley Area, Arizona
From abstract: The Geological Survey has completed a program of uranium investigation and geologic mapping in the Monument Valley area, Apache and Navajo Counties, Ariz. The program, undertaken on behalf of the 'Atomic Energy Commission, had two principal objectives. The first was to establish prospecting guides for uranium ore deposits. The second objective was to appraise the relative favorableness of formations and areas for the occurrence of uranium deposits in order to select localities that deserve further exploration.

Identification and Occurrence of Uranium and Vanadium Minerals From the Colorado Plateaus
Abstract: "This report, designed to make available to field geologists and others information on identification and occurrence of uranium minerals of the Colorado Plateaus, contains physical properties, X-ray data, and in some instances results of chemical and spectrographic analysis of 24 uranium and 17 vanadium minerals. Also included is a table giving the optical properties of uranium minerals and a list of locations of mines from which the minerals have been identified."
