Abstract: This report contains data and statistics on low-flow frequency for 254 stream-gagins stations on Florida streams and canals. The selected stations have 10 or more years of continuous record. A site description, a 10-year hydrograph, and a table of flow duration are presented for each station. A computed monthly 7-day, 10-year low flow is presented for stations when flow is not significantly altered by dams, increased or decreased significantly by diversion, or influence by tides.

The following report presents the results of part of a geologic study of the phosphate deposits in central Florida. The purpose of the investigative research done in Florida is to determine the geologic history of the phosphate deposits and associated sediments, in order that the distribution of phosphate and uranium will be more clearly understood.

From Abstract: "The mineral constituents of churn drill cuttings from a well through the Bone Valley formation and into the Hawthorn formation were determined. The weight percent of each mineral is given, as well as a description of the samples and the methods used."

From abstract: Areas of abnormal radioactivity south of Ocala, Marion County, Fla., discovered in 1953 by aerial survey, were investigated by surface examination and by 10 power auger drill holes. Interbedded clay, clayey sand, and uraniferous phosphorite occur in the areas of anomalous radioactivity. Miocene fossils occur at three localities in these beds which are evidently outliers of Miocene sediments on the Ocala limestone of Eocene age. The preserved outliers are southwest of the main belt of Miocene sediments. The principal uraniferous rocks are clayey, sandy, pellet phosphorite that occurs in beds a few feet thick, and very porous, phosphatic sand rock which makes abundant float at many places. Apatite forms the phosphate pellets in the unweathered phosphorite. The very porous, phosphatic sand rock is the highly leached residuum of the pellet phosphorite and is composed mainly of quartz, kaolinite, wavellite, and crandallite ( pseudowavellite2). It closely resembles the aluminum phosphate rock of the "leached zone" of the Bone Valley formation in the land-pebble phosphate district.

From purpose and scope: The objective of this investigation was to define the hydrogeologic framework of the surficial, intermediate (Tamiami-upper Hawthorn aquifer and lower Hawthorn-upper Tampa aquifer), and Floridian aquifers in the Sarasota-Port Charlotte area, including their regional extent, thickness, hydraulic properties, water quality, and their interrelation in the regional ground-water flow system.

Introduction: Deposits of phosphate in Florida, located beyond the limits of known producing areas, have been reported by prospectors and mining companies. Much of the information has been based upon prospecting and exploration which was undertaken many years ago and as a result the published data relating to the occurrence of these deposits are fragmentary, and few details relating to specific locations and extent are available.

From purpose and content: The purpose of this report is to: (1) describe the general quality of ground water found in the injection zones (permeable strata that accept water) of drainage wells; (2) assess the impact of drainage wells on the water quality of supply wells, particularly public-supply; and (3) establish a data base necessary for future studies.

The cumulus cloud events of the Florida peninsula that were observed during a 19-day period of photoreconnaissance in August and September 1957 are described and illustrated. The associated meteorological and rainfall events are also described and the intercorrelations among the various observations are pointed out. The study findings revealed that the principal factors governing the cloud and rainfall situations of the different days were (1) the low-level advection of water vapor into the peninsula from the oceanic surroundings, (2) the wind transport, into the heated peninsula from the oceans during the daytime, of pre -existing cumulus populations containing appreciable liquid water, (3) the low-level convergence, and associated updraft motion, engendered by the synoptic situation and the peninsula sea breezes, and (4) the precipitable water content of the lower Florida air mass. From introduction: In this study on raw material sources of uranium the Southern Interstate Nuclear Board has catalogued all known occurrences of uranium and some references to thorium in a 17-state area (P1. 1). These occurrences have been evaluated as potential sources of uranium by the State Geological Surveys and the consultant group of SINB. Favorability guides have been applied to the known occurrences and recommendations have been made for future action by the states involved, federal agencies, or by industry. State recommendations are included in state-by-state summaries. The state reports were written either by personnel of the State Geological Surveys or were abstracted from State geological survey data by members of the consultant group...The purpose of this study was to compile information on and systematically assess uranium and other radioactive occurrences in the region. The SINB undertook the project because of its statutory, interstate capability as an extension of government in each of the 17 states, an arrangement that lends itself effectively to this cooperative undertaking.
