The caption on the photograph tells us that this is "Truck No. 1 Central Fire Station" being photographed; there are 12 men that make up this company, nine of whom are standing in front of the long wagon loaded with ladders, while two are sitting in the driver's seat and one is sitting at the very back of the ladders.

The doors are labeled (from left to right), "Engine Co - No. 44", "Engine Co - "No. 4", "Water Tower No. 2", and "Ladder Co - No. 7." A handwritten message on the back of the photograph says, "[...] I am sending you this to let you know that I am alive, but want to get back to [...]. Give all the boys my regards. [...]".
