Evidences of Modern Architectural Design in Public School Buildings of Denton, Texas
In this study the public-school buildings of Denton are examined for evidences of modern architectural design. Chapter I serves as an introduction. Chapter II presents a history of the Denton Public Schools. Chapter III presents standards for evaluating modern school architecture. Features of existing school buildings, built earlier than 1964, which, in character, exemplify modern architectural design are described in Chapter IV. The three school buildings built since 1946 and the one under construction are described in detail and evaluated according to the standards given. Representative photostatic reproduction and photographs illustrate the text. In Chapter V a summary of the study is given and conclusions are presented.

"The primary objective of this study was to determine the proportion of shopping goods trade Denton merchants are losing to other cities. A secondary objective was to find reasons for the loss of trade. Since Denton is within the trade orbit of Dallas and Fort Worth, special emphasis was placed on finding the percentage of trade going to these two cities...The major finding of this study is the indication that approximately 81 percent of Denton's retail shopping goods trade is actually done in Denton. Types of Home Repairs and Improvements Made by People Who Maintain a Home and the Factors Influencing the Selection, Use, and Care of Tools and Equipment
Home repairs and maintenance are a necessary responsibility of any person who maintains a home. This responsibility can usually be met in one of two ways: first, someone can be hired to do the maintenance, or the person can do it himself. However, home repairs are costly and at times prohibitive to the average person who maintains a home. Then, too, there have been times in the past, especially during the war years, when it was next to impossible to secure the services of trained mechanics for home maintenance. During such time, and out of such necessity, many people began to make their own repairs and other improvements and, as a result, a gradual "do-it-yourself" movement has invaded all sections of the country. With the changing of times, with money a little more plentiful and manpower back in civilian life, do people who maintain their homes continue to make their own home repairs?

Ideal Siting, Orientation, and Ventilation of Houses in Relation to the Climate of Denton, Texas
The purpose of this study was to collect and compile data on the principal climatic factors of the Denton area which affect one's personal comfort and health, in order to show how a maximum of these commodities could be secured through manipulation and control of the climate of individual building sites. In the Denton County area the naturally breezy climate of summer, excluding areas near heat-collecting surfaces of pavement and masonry, is not usually uncomfortable out of doors unless one is directly exposed to the sun; but, as a result of improper orientation of houses, indoors one often feels a pressing still heat and a general discomfort. The writer's interest in the field of architecture led to a desire to find out how this condition could be alleviated; therefore, this study was undertaken.

An Evaluation of the Efforts of Denton Apparel Stores in Securing Student Trade
"The purpose of this study is to determine the extent to which Denton apparel stores have succeeded in securing student trade, and from the findings, draw some conclusions concerning improvement of relations with students which would maximize the amount of student trade obtained by these stores... according to the findings, the Denton apparel stores as a whole do not seem to be achieving their maximum potential in securing student trade...It seems that most of the stores could substantially increase the amount of trade secured by expanding their advertising and sales promotion plans, by handling line of merchandise which are most appealing to the students, and by adjusting their price lines to the ranges in which students normally buy. An Evaluative Study to Determine the Present Status of the Administration of Public Recreation in Denton, Texas, with a Proposed Plan for Future Development
The purpose of this study was to determine to what extent the public recreation of Denton under the present administrative setup is serving the needs of the citizenship of Denton. Various agencies affording recreation for their own members or sponsoring recreation activities affecting other inhabitants of Denton were surveyed to determine the present status of administration of public recreation in Denton. The results of the survey were compared with standards set up by the National Recreation Association for cities the size of Denton. From a comparison of the present status and the standards, an effort was made to formulate a basis of administration that would be sound and business-like, well co-ordinated, and consistent with good governmental practice.

Interior of the new quarters of the Denton Police Department which was in the City Hall Annex, just west of the City Hall (West) and facing Cedar Street. Detective Luther Allen is sitting in the middle, dispatcher Eddie Huey on the right, and unidentified police officer pictured in the background. We think this picture was taken in July or August 1959 because there are boxes on the floor and the walls are bare. In 1971, Huey would join the Navy and leave for a sixth-month tour of duty. Luther Allen, worked for the Denton Police Department from 1933-1941 and the Denton County Sheriff's Department from 1941-1946, before running unsuccessfully for sheriff in 1945. He would rejoin the Denton Police Department as a detective until his death in 1962.
