[Autograph Book of Maggie Hampton]

Signature and address book used by Maggie Mayfield Hampton during her time teaching at the Fred Douglas school in Prairie View, Texas. Various friends at the school wrote notes to Maggie in the book. The journal has a purple fabric cover with a flower pattern; decorative embellishments are on the front, including flowers and the letters "Auto."

[Obituary for William Crow Wright]

This original newspaper clipping was pasted once pasted into a scrapbook. The obituary contains a summary of the life and death of W. C. Wright, an early settler in Denton, Texas. W. C. Wright died at the age of 70 after having lived under three flags, having served in the Texas Cavalry during the Civil War, and having served in a local militia. Wright became a wealthy farmer and trader and built and operated the Wright's Opera House. He was survived by his wife, Julia A. Gober Williams, and seven children including Mrs. Effie Fay Branche Wright Williams. William Crow Wright died May 16, 1906.

Portrait of Sgt. George V. Huffmon, of the U.S. Army Medical Corps in uniform. On his uniform is a braid which signified he was in the Infantry and the serpent, the Medical Corps. Written on the back is the notation, "Havana, Cuba, Nov. 2, 1906. George V. Huffmon, Co. B, Hospital Corps, USA; Camp Columbia, Havana, Cuba. A bad picture." Added additional information by staff: Sgt. Huffmon enlisted in the Army on January 25, 1906. Camp Columbia was the headquarters or base camp and was located just west of Havana. The U.S. Medical Corps at that time period made great attempts to improve sanitation, drinking water, and combat disease and epidemics such as smallpox, yellow fever, and malaria.
