This report studies Devonian rocks in an approximately 200,000-square-mile area between Williston Basin, central Montana, and north-central Wyoming.

From letter of transmittal: The report contains fourteen papers, prepared by ten members of the geologic corps, who have been engaged in Alaskan investigations during the last year. In this report an attempt has been made to summarize the economic results of last season's field work. Geologic matter has been entirely excluded, except where it has a direct bearing on the subjects under discussion. While such a report can have no permanent value, other than as a record of mining conditions during the year, it is believed that its prompt publication will help the mining industry of Alaska.

From abstract: On February 6-8, 1978, New England was battered by one of the most severe winter storms of record. The storm produced record snowfall in many areas of Rhode Island and Massachusetts...This report contains data which document the flooding along parts of the New England coast. Elevations of 203 floodmarks in Massachusetts, 104 in Maine, and 46 in New Hampshire are given. Also included are some historical coastal flood data and a list of other storm-related studies.

From introduction: The growing economic importance of the Carrville district, Trinity County, California merits notice, and it is hoped that this brief report will direct attention toward it, to the end that mining in general may be benefited.

Introduction: This work is an alphabetical list of the geographic names that are now applied and have been applied to to places and features of the Alaska Landscape.

The following report documents results taken from a reconnaissance geochemical survey that was conducted in the northwest-trending Alexander terrane, Gravina-Nutzotin overlap assemblage, and Taku terrane in southeast Alaska in the Craig and Dixon Entrance quadrangles and the western edges of the Ketchikan and Prince Rupert quadrangles.

From preface: The present volume is the tenth of a series of annual bulletins treating of the progress of mining in Alaska and summarizing the results achieved during the year in the investigations of the mineral resources of the Territory.

From outline: This paper, after discussing general principles connected with the study and description of the Tertiary or Cenozoic rocks and fossils contained in them, takes up the Neocene deposits of the United States in particular. A chapter is devoted to a summary of what is known in regard to the Neocene of the eastern coast of the United States, each State in geographical order being separately considered, beginning at the north.

From introduction: This survey was the first systematic work undertaken in this geologic province since the Geological Exploration of the Fortieth Parallel, in 1869, and was the first detailed geologic examination of a wide area in the Wasatch Range. Hence, an unusual amount of general geologic work in the region surrounding the special field was required to establish fundamental geologic facts.
