Article presents the implementation of relaxation time approximation models in the calculation of Boltzmann transport in PAOFLOW 2.0 and applies those to model band-structures. In addition, using a self-consistent fitting of the model parameters to experimental conductivity data, the authors provide a flexible tool to extract scattering rates with high accuracy. They illustrate the approximations using simple models and then apply the method to GaAs, Si, Mg₃Sb₂, and CoSb₃.

Despite their many successes, Roman leaders continually struggled with indiscipline in their own ranks as they battled Rome's opponents. Desertion and defection were steps that soldiers often undertook to avoid their obligated service. Previous scholarship has largely overlooked this aspect of Roman warfare. This dissertation analyzes why Roman soldiers began turning to desertion and defection throughout the Republican period. Such cases were generally rare in early Rome, but the expanding responsibilities and hardships of warfare in the Middle Republic caused them to rise, as did the sizeable growth of the Roman community. The civil wars of the Late Republic saw especially high cases of such acts, as generals incentivized defections in their opponents ranks. Roman desertion was not unique, but a common occurrence in ancient warfare. This dissertation also addresses how Romans capitalized on desertion and defection in warfare. The Second Punic War offers an example of how Rome achieved victory by encouraging defection in its enemy's alliances. Romans also relied heavily on defectors as a source of intelligence and as a tool in siege warfare. The moral forces of commitment, discipline, dissatisfaction, and desertion were often as important as the tactics and technologies of the participants in Rome's wars.

Undergraduate cellists from diverse pedagogical backgrounds with various levels of technical proficiency often struggle to adapt to the demanding performance standards of the university environment. Frequently, these challenges are caused by technical concepts that have been incorrectly learned or unaddressed in the cellist's previous educational experience. Designed for university cello professors and undergraduate cello students, this study is a remedial and enhancement technical method for developing efficient performance habits; it presents a synthesis of cello performing ideologies, comprehensive technical analysis, physical conformation solutions, original sequential exercises, practice models, and recommendations for supporting literature. The method provides a structured path to expressive mastery and artistic freedom in performing advanced cello repertoire.

This dissertation is a collection of papers on anomalous phenomena in physics, biology, and sociology. These phenomena are primarily analyzed in terms of their temporal and spatiotemporal statistical properties. The analysis is based on both numerical simulations and, in some cases, real-world physiological and sociological data. The primary methods of analysis are diffusion entropy analysis, power spectral analysis, multifractal analysis, and survival (or waiting-time) analysis.

This dissertation demonstrates that it is possible to create a donor-acceptor system that can transform sunlight into electrons. By using site-directed synthesis, it was possible to create a novel trans-A2B2 porphyrin. In the pursuit of creating a supramolecular system, both the novel (TPA-BT)2ZnP and C60imidazole combined in solution such that the nitrogenous lone pair of C60 imidazole would coordinate axially to the zinc atom in the porphyrin. The conjugates' characterization utilized spectral, electrochemical, and computational techniques. Computational studies revealed in the optimized structure that the HOMO localized on the porphyrin and LUMO centered over the C60imidazole entity. Rehm-Weller calculations showed feasibility of singlet-electron transfer. Femtosecond transient absorption studies documented an efficient photoinduced charge separation in the conjugate. The subsequent work through steady-state and time-resolved transient absorption techniques that photoinduced electron transfer takes place between the synthesized phenylimidazole functionalized bisstyrylBODIPY (BDP(Im)2) and three selected zinc tetrapyrroles. This dyad consisted of BDP(Im)2 and either zinc tetratolylporphyrin (ZnP), zinc-tetra-t-butyl phthalocyanine (ZnPc), or zinc tetra-t-butyl naphthalocyanine (ZnNc) in a solution solvated by σ-dichlorobenzene (DCB). The three dyads (BDP(Im)2:ZnP, BDP(Im)2:ZnPc, and BDP(Im)2:ZnNc) were investigated by spectroscopic, computational, and electrochemical methods.
