In 1973 , the citizens of Nebraksa embarked upon the Nebraska I-80 Bicentennial Sculpture Project, which provided large roadside sculptures along Interstate 80. A controversial project, referred to as an outdoor sculpture garden, it was completed in 1976 as a lasting commemoration of America's Bicentennial, The sculptures are interspersed for approximately five hundred miles throughout the state and located on alternate sides of the expressway at roadside rest areas.

This study is devoted to a critical examination of the architectural structure and sculpture of the church of San Cayetano de La Valenciana in Guanajuato, Mexico, concentrating on the ornamentation of the exterior portals and the interior altar retables. This paper traces the development of the Churrigueresque phase within the Baroque period of Mexican religious architecture and analyzes specific application of this style to the church of La Valenciana. Stylistic and iconographic components are discussed and a review of significant literature on this subject is included.

Twelve freshwater gastropod families, 39 genera and 70 fossil and Recent species are recognized and systematically treated. Keys to the families, genera and species were constructed and all species are illustrated. The purpose of this oral interpretation thesis is to explore Chamber Theatre as a medium for production. The popular image of the West in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries incorporates radically opposing images: the West is viewed as a Garden of Eden at times, but it is also frequently seen as violent, a land inimical to man. The region both attracted and repelled. Among those attracted were artists who carried back some of the first images of the land. Thomas Moran (1837-1926) became associated quite early with the West because a pair of his paintings of western canyons was purchased by the United States Government.

The National Guard in America began in the Revolutionary War. The Texas units resulted from the earlier concept and emerged in 1835 to resist Mexican oppression. Following achievement of statehood, Texas militiamen served in the Mexican War, the Civil War, and the Spanish-American War. As the twentieth century began, Texans had a long history of service in reserve military organizations in spite of a prevailing attitude of contempt for citizen soldiers held by influential regular army officials.

When, at age forty-nine, B.B. McKinney becae the Music Editor for the Baptist Sunday School Board, he began a career as probably the most influential man in Southern Baptist music, setting in motion the machinery that has made the Southern Baptist church music program among the largest in the nation. After six years with the Board, McKinney was promoted to Secretary of the newly-formed Church Music Department. Through his leadership state conventions were led to employ music secretaries to help train and assist churches with their individual music programs. Besides his continued editorship and composing, he set up, with his associate Hines Sims, the Church Music Training Course, and began the publication of a monthly journal, The Church Musician.

In his life and legends he exemplified the medieval world's heroic ideal. His achievement, the recovery of the Holy City for Christianity, was the pinnacle-the crowning glory-for the western world. By examining the historical fact of Godfrey's life and comparing it to legends and artistic renderings of that life, one can learn more about the time during which he lived and the people of which he was a part.

The purpose of this thesis was to relate experiences and philosophies of James Surls to his art in order to determine changes in his artistic style. The problem was to study Surls' sculpture in approximately one decade in order to determine changes in his style, to determine which sculptures are important in making these changes, and to analyze how and why these changes occurred.

Although the Stoic figure and references to Stoicism appear frequently in this drama, there has never been a comprehensive study of the Stoic element in the drama of this period. This thesis is a close textual analysis of three videotapes produced at Texas Instruments. The first chapter outlines the background of corporate video and some of the methods used in the analysis. Chapter II discusses the origins of televisual conventions and traces their migration to the corporate sector's video production efforts.
