In this episode, Susan interviews Dr. Bert Hayslip, Regents Professor Emeritus in UNT’s Psychology Department. Dr. Hayslip explains how an experience he had in a nursing home as a child motivated him to pursue a career working with older adults. He discusses with Susan some of the influences on memory and the ways in which we understand memory in later life. Dr. Hayslip explains why he dislikes the term “senior moment” and why he is a proponent of learning new skills to improve memory as we age.

Interview with Dhanada Kulkarni for the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) podcast. In this episode, Susan interviews Dhanada Kulkarni of the Astanga Ayurved Center in Coppell, TX (astangaayurvedcenter.com/). Dhanada is an Ayurvedic Physician, Master Yoga Therapist, founder of SohamAyurYoga, Vedic Astrologer, and Vastu Consultant. Dhanada discusses her background and training, then breaks down the basic concepts of Ayurveda. Later in the conversation, she explains Vedic Astrology and the differences between Ayurvedic medicine and Western medicine. Dhanada also talks with Susan about her positive experiences teaching OLLI at UNT members.

Interview with Dr. John Neal for the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) podcast. In this episode, Susan interviews Dr. John Neal, Professor Emeritus of Journalism at Brookhaven College, who teaches communications-related courses for OLLI at UNT. In addition to discussing his academic background, Dr. Neal goes over some highlights of the history of photography, from the ancient camera obscura to the advent of stereoscopy and 3D movies. He also talks with Susan about his knowledge of the development of typography, including the design of certain typefaces and techniques of arranging type to make printed language more legible and appealing.

This episode provides biographical information and selected recordings related to four major figures in jazz who attended North Texas State Teachers College in the early 1940s: Herb Ellis, Jimmy Giuffre, Gene Roland, and Harry Babasin. The recordings include selections from on-campus concerts featuring Giuffre and Ellis in the 1950s and 1970s, respectively, and from both artists again in the Jazz Lecture Series in 1983.

Dr. Holden shares examples of astonishing transpersonal experiences from her research and discusses the profound life changes reported by those who have had these experiences.

Interview with Dr. Milan Reban for the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) podcast. In this very special episode, Susan sits down for an extended conversation with Dr. Milan Reban. This episode was recorded on March 15, 2019, exactly 80 years to the day since Nazi troops descended on Dr. Reban's hometown. Dr. Reban shares vivid memories of his childhood in Nazi-occupied Czechoslovakia during World War II, as well as the aftermath of the war and its impact on his own life and that of his family. Dr. Reban also discusses the courses he's taught for OLLI at UNT, many based on his own powerful life story, and how he first became involved with our program.

Interview with Stephanie Reinke, Andrea Tuckness, and Jordan Williams for the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) podcast. This special episode of the podcast features an overview of the OLLI at UNT program.
