Temps Fixé

Recording of Yves Daoust's Temps Fixé. This work was commissioned by Media Arts Networks with the help of the Canada Council for the Arts. This work was inspired by a visit the composer made to a singer friend who now, as an elderly individual, lives in an assisted living facility. The composer was struck by the vision of "a worn man, deteriorated by time". The work represents not death but the idea of time and the unstoppable nature of it through the lens of a singer frozen in time at the height of their career.

Recording of Karine Dumont's L'eau et le vent me racontent à l'oreille.... This work was inspired by Georges Sand's text in which the Master Ringers listen to what the water and the wind tell them. The composer poses the question of what the rain would say if it was given a voice and explores all the possibilities. The composer supposes that "they just grant us the right to listen and listen to their story".

prayer of a king

Recording of Stefan Klaverdal's prayer of a king. This is a work for saxophone and computer that was extracted from the suite "On Being". It is thematically derived from the classical play of Hamlet, and was originally composed to a dance performance on the play. The notation is quite open, allowing the players to freely choose several aspects of interpretation, such as some rhythms, tempo, etc. for both of the musicians, both saxophone and computer.

Motion and Glitch Study

Recording of Shintaro Imai's Motion and Glitch Study. This is a work for dance, visual image processing, and electronic sound. It was commissioned by Inventionen 2004 and was a collaborative work with Kazue Ikeda (dance improvisation). The main purpose of the piece is to experiment with the relationship between the gradual/sudden transformation of a dancer's motion, electronic glitch sounds, and visual textures as a result of modulation.

Earth-Star Songs

Recording of Leif Brush's Earth-Star Songs. This work is considered a "stitching" of sounds and recordings taken from an array of the composer's analogue constructs and terrain instruments. These recordings have been paired with recordings produced by Jerry Chamkis' Kosmophone. The result is an inexhaustibly complex amalgamation of hard-edged terrestrial and tactile phenomena contrasted by cosmically sourced retro-futuristic synth interjections.

Some of the sound objects inclue: white noise, portions of a jam session of the grupo folklorico de Buenaventura, the slam of a door, etc. These sound objects are sonic symbols used to create a personal language embracing various cultures.

Refraccion

Recording of Luisa Ventura's Refraccion. This work is based on the "malambo", an Argentinian folk dance that includes masculine dance forms and various accompanying instruments. This piece is an electric malambo and is the third that this composer has created. It is a nostalgic work that highlights times of bravery, patriotism, honorability, and true progress. Sampled sounds of bass drum and guitar are used.
