Wedge. Music for two audio tracks

Recording of René Uijlenhoet's Wedge. Music for two audio tracks. The composer describes this piece as being about sounds that wrench other sounds loose as well as frantically racing sounds or stationary sound planes. The piece was inspired by the rhythms and loops in Pierre Schaeffer and Pierre Henry's early Musique Concrète montages. Wedge was created with synthetic sounds from a variety of sources, as well as a pair of distorted bass clarinets and a manipulated cymbal.

Archée

Recording of Patrick Lenfant's Archée. The main material in this work is fire, an "electonic" fire made from exclusively analog wave generators. The second material is "time" and is an essential part of the work. This piece belongs to a collection of works the composer calls his "electronic sound paintings" which consist of pieces that suggest to the listener an image of the chosen model by stylizing it using electronic sources.

Feuillage de silence

Recording of Elsa Justel's Feuillage de silence. The composer dedicates this work to his father who helped inspire the concept behind the piece. The composer compares the job of a musician to that of a gardener when honing their craft, by experimenting and manipulating nature in a non-destructive way in search of something beautiful.

Kyoto Bells

Recording of Wilfried Jentzsch's Kyoto Bells. This work was commissioned to mark the 1200th anniversary of the founding of the city of Kyoto and premiered there in 1994. The sound material is based on four bells of different sizes which the composer had brought with them on their first returning trip to Japan in 1993.

Clothed in the Soft Horizon

Recording of Mathew Adkins' Clothed in the Soft Horizon. The work presents a communitive interaction between electronically built sounds and the original unprocessed sounds, which are modelled after water droplets and the motion of a wave that builds, crashes, and breaks. This use of processed and unprocessed sound is the overall bas of the work and also the Spectro morphological design of many of the individual sounds. Overall, the work is both a physical representation of the flow and motion of the water and a personal response to it.

Recording of Michael Rosas Cobian's Rumbos. Etudes 94. Rumbos is translates to pathways in a ambiguous or mysterious manner. Three basic sound sources are used: a sample of a squash game, an attack of a cello col legno and a metal strike; and a single technical device: the Akai sampler. The feature of 8 point loop facility which is used extensively in this work.

Variable densities

Recording of Paul Geladi's Variable densities. Consists of 3 parts: start, middle, and end. Start and end are delivered in their finished form as digital stereo recordings, which are meant to be assembled by the performer. The duration of middle is undetermined. The only requirement is that there is a decreasing density as time progresses. The parts may be assembled in advance into a stereo mix or played live and mixed in any combination or order, as long as average density decreases. The same version of middle should never be used twice.

Sin los cuatro

Recording of Rajmil Fischman's Sin los cuatro. This work is for tape and was composed using a Composers’ Desktop Project (CDP) computer workstation. Most of its material consists of two main sources: a recording of ice cubes falling into a glass of water and a blow-torch. These sound sources are manipulated and processed in order to create diverse textures as well as gestural material.

By using traditional electro-acoustic technique certain effects have allowed for pre-recorded sound fragments to transforms and change throughout the piece. Shattered

Recording of John Rimmer's Shattered. This work begins with a string bow breaking, this sound gradually expands and shatters through sounds of which even the smallest bears a striking resemblance to the original sound from which they are extracted. A new world of sound, spectacular, evolves with sonorities assimilable to sonorities derived from harmonics on the violin and in contrast with large shapes laden with splinters of the bow. The work ends with the reappearance of the original recording as if the violinist was trying to reappear on the stage despite his broken bow.

Neumo Progremodum
