This study seeks to examine the history of the ricercare, specifically in the baroque era. In this work, all types of keyboard compositions that utilize imitative counterpoint have been examined. Late baroque fugues have been examined to determine which characteristics of the earlier ricercare remained in general use and which specific compositions contain elements causing them to resemble strongly the parent form. This volume is a musical supplement to the thesis.

The purpose of this study were to provide fundamental ethnographic information about the Ticuna Indians and to determine to what extent the programs of bilingual education, administered among them by the Ministerio de Educación Pública del Perú and the Summer Institute of Linguistics (SIL), had accelerated their integration into mainstream Peruvian Life.

Parody may be defined as a humorous or sarcastic imitation of a serious piece of literature. It appears, following this interpretation, that Carlos Ordoñez composed his marionette opera, Musica Dalla Parodie d'Alceste as a parody on Gluck's Alceste. A microfilm of the original manuscript of Ordoñez was procured from the National Szecheny Library in Budapest, the possessor of the only copy of the work.

In contrast to the relatively rapid changes occurring in the modern American army, the period between the end of the War of 1812 and the beginning of the Mexican War offers a definite period for a study of military life when reform came slowly.

The study was a pioneering effort to research a mix of the combined principles from several different theoretical positions into one integrated model of learning, growth, and development. Sets of principles were based on Human Resource Development field theory of learning, Social Learning theory, Operant Conditioning theory, and Aversive Control Learning theory.

The Germans who immigrated to Texas in the 1830s, 40s, and 50s brought with them many and varied cultural institutions which they had known and enjoyed in Europe. As soon as the initial hardships of the frontier could be overcome, they eagerly established singing societies in the Lidertafel tradition. The problem of this study is an analysis of activities in production typewriting, development of a teaching model, and establishment of production standards. The study has four main purposes which are: (1) to identify the time spent in keystroking, decision making, typing from longhand copy, erasing an original, typing and correcting one carbon copy, and proofreading; (2) to test the correlation between anxiety level and decision-making time, and IQ and decision-making time; (3) to analyze the differences in difficulty level of six production tasks and develop a teaching model; and (4) to discover the mean gross words per minute rate and total number of errors on six production tasks and develop production standards.

The problem of this study is to determine the feasibility of using an operant treatment procedure to ameliorate several manifestations of depression. This symphony is a representation of the composer's philosophy of life, which includes a belief in a pre-existent life (Beginnings), a mortal life (Searchings and Wanderings), and a life after death (Return Home). Three out of four of the cyclic elements in the Symphony are symbolic. Theme one represents the influence for good which emanates from a living God; motive one represents the influence for evil, or the Devil; motive two represents the influence of Christ. All three of these influences were present in the pre-existence, they are present in earth life and in the life after death, where good will ultimately triumph over evil. Motive three is found in both first and third movements, but has no symbolic meaning.

The purpose of this study was to test the therapeutic usefulness of a completely self-administered, behavior-therapy technique: systematic desensitization. The method involved the comparison of behavior change following the treatment of two groups of subjects. One group received the actual systematic-desensitization procedure, while the other underwent a similar but theoretically ineffective treatment termed attention-placebo.

This dissertation assesses Leonardo Bruni as an individual in Renaissance Italy, analyzes the general contours of his humanism, and demonstrates the central role played by history in his thought. The sources used include manuscripts and printed editions if Bruni's works, the letters and works of his contemporaries, certain ancient and medieval works, and subsequent scholarship on the subject.

The present investigation sough to explore the psychological responses of rape victims. A review of pertinent literature suggested a primary reaction of women to rape was fear, but the absence of controlled research and standardized observations limited the generalizability of these findings. A triparate interpretation of fear -- with autonomic, self-report, and avoidance behavior components -- was proposed. In addition, the research attempted to document negative changes in self-concept and feelings of powerlessness resultant from the rape experience.

Utilizing the debates of the German Reichstag, the proceedings of the SPD, the memoirs of the leading military and Marxist figures and the principal newspapers of the Second Reich and Weimar Republic, this dissertation attempts to show how the army chiefs and the socialist leaders of Germany altered their policies not only to promote their interests but also to protect the state.

The problem with which this investigation is concerned is that of determining the effect of Biofeedback and/or Relaxation training on psycho-physical measures related to older persons' manifestations of stress. This is accomplished by assessing the differential outcomes obtained from using biofeedback plus relaxation with one group of subjects and relaxation training only with another group of subjects.
