A dark and light patched dog is vsible in the bottom right corner, and a house with a steep-pitched roof and scalloped trim on its porch is visible in the background, along with windmill to the back left. A printed label adhered to the bottom edge of the photo mat reads, "Mr Ruben seated fought in Confederate army, name is on monument in Goldthwaite Picture taken about 1898 in North Bennet Community, Mills Co, TX". Names of the family members are written on the back.
