Presentation was given at the 2019 Texas Conference on Digital Libraries in Austin, Texas. This presentation discusses an IMLS funded research grant to use machine learning techniques to help identify high-value publications from web archives.

Facilitating User Access through the Extraction of Documents from Digital Archives

Poster presented at the 2019 Texas Conference on Digital Libraries (TCDL-2019). This poster discusses about the University of North Texas' archive of government websites known as the CyberCemetery. The UNT Libraries have begun to extract documents embedded within the vast collection of web archives. Many of these documents include reports and transcripts from the various committees and agencies found in the collections. Through this project, the UNT Digital Library expands its role as a steward of digital resources in addition to making information easier to find.

Leveraging Machine Learning to Extract Content-Rich Publications from Web Archives

What role do web-published documents and publications play in developing collections in the broad categories of institutional repositories, state government documents, and publications from the federal government? 2. What are the characteristics of web-published documents and publications that help content selectors identify them for inclusion in their local collection

Adherence to Exercise Programs in Older Adults: Informative Report

This article focuses on filling information gaps regarding adherence to physical activity and exercise in the health care spectrum of older adults (OA) and an overview of the benefits of physical activity for OA. Exercise adherence in OA is a multifactorial problem encompassing many biopsychosocial factors. Factors affecting adherence in the OA include socioeconomic status, education level, living arrangements, health status, pacemakers, physical fitness, and depression. Improving adherence could have a significant impact on longevity, quality of life, and health care costs.

Oral History Interview with Louis Strang, March 22, 2019

The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an interview with Louis Strang. Strang joined the Marines around mid-1942. He completed Radio and Radar School in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was transferred to a Marine air station on the east coast where he studied aircraft radar and transmitters. Strang was then deployed to a Marine air station at Pearl Harbor. He was assigned to Marine Air Control Squadron 4, and they traveled aboard a troop ship to Guadalcanal in February of 1945. They followed the 1st Marine Division on their Okinawa landing April 1, and provided ground to air communications support during the Battle of Okinawa through July. He describes living and working on the island, and the surrounding combat with the Japanese. Around early August, Strang describes going through a typhoon aboard a cargo ship. After the war ended, Strang and his crew were assigned with the 1st Marines to occupation duty in China. He returned to the U.S. and received his discharge in early 1946.
