Bishop Edward "Ed" Konieczny was a celebrant at many Saint David Pendleton Oakerhater Honor Dances during his bishopric. The annual Honor Dance at the Oakerhater Episcopal Center in Watonga was begun in 1987. The annual celebration honors the only Native American saint in the Episcopal Church who began his ministry in 1881.

Episcopal Deacon Dave Pendleton Oakerhater and Reverend David Sanford

L to R: Reverend David Sanford and Deacon Oakerhater at Whirlwind mission. Dave Pendleton Oakerhater, known as O-kuh-ha-tuh, or Making Medicine, was a Cheyenne warrior along with many other Native American prisoners at Fort Marion, St. Augustine, Florida in 1875. After training in New York, he was ordained a deacon at Grace Episcopal Cathedral, Syracuse, New York. Deacon Oakerhater served thirty-six years at Whirlwind mission before officially retiring.
