The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an interview with Lois Dishong. Dishong joined the Women’s Army Corps (WAC) in 1943. She worked in accounting in the finance office at Camp Davis, North Carolina. From there she went to dental school at Camp Atterbury, Indiana. Then she went to work for a dental laboratory at Camp Blanding, Florida. Dishong was discharged in December of 1945.

The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an oral interview with Dr. Dorr W. Brown, MD. Brown begins with recalling anecdotes about growing up in various parts of Texas, attending Southwestern University in Gerogetown, and going to medical school in Galveston before joining the Navy after the beginning of World War II. Once he was in the Navy, Brown did his medical internship in Norman, Oklahoma. Brown eventually ended up at Pearl Harbor and then went to Japan as part of the Occupation. After the war, Brown stayed in the Navy for a while and became a flight surgeon. he resigned soon after and went tinto private medical practice in Fredericksburg, Texas.

The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an oral interview with Elvin Moore. Moore served as an Army Medic on Guam. He was drafted in 1943 and after training was sent to Guam to work at an Army hospital camp. His father knew Lyndon B. Johnson and Admiral Chester W. Nimitz. One of his father's letters led to an invitation to visit Nimitz at CINCPAC headquarters. He remained on Guam until the end of the war. He was discharged January 1945.

The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an oral interview with Gladys Kizziar. Kizziar was training as a nurse at the beginning of the war. She became a US Army nurse after she graduated from nursing school. Kizziar was sent to the Philippines to help prepare for the invasion of Japan. She was on board a hospital ship in Tokyo Bay during the surrender ceremony. Kizziar served with the 42nd General Hospital in Yokohama helping to process POWs as they were being liberated. She tells of General MacArthur visiting the former POWs. Kizziar stayed in the Army and was eventually sent to Germany where she met her husband.

Oral History Interview with L. E. Ramey, May 2, 2001

Transcript of an oral interview with Dr. L. E. Ramey. Dr Ramey graduated from Baylor Medical School in Dallas June 1, 1942 and entered the Navy as an Intern on June 24, 1942. After going through an Internship at San Diego Naval Hospital, he was sent to submarine medical school in New London, Connecticut and deep sea diving school in Washington, D.C. He was then assigned to the Submarine Force, Pacific Fleet and transferred to the Submarine Base 1504 (Midway Island); this was 1944. At this time, Midway was the outpost of the Submarine Force. His primary duty was taking care of the base personnel but whenever a submarine would come in from a patrol he would exam all its personnel as well as the submarine itself. Dr Ramey provides numerous anecdotes about his time at the Naval Hospital in San Diego as well as on Midway during this interview. He was in the States on leave when the atomic bombs were dropped and was released from the Navy on June 24, 1947.

Oral History Interview with LC Eaton, February 19, 2000

The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an oral interview with L C Eaton. Eaton joined the Navy in 1937 and received basic training in Norfolk, Virginia. He was sent to San Diego, California, for hospital corps training. Upon completion, he was assigned to the USS Savannah (CL-42) and transferred to the USS Boise (CL-47) to complete his first enlistment. He re-enlisted in the Navy to avoid the Army draft and was assigned to the USS Republic (AP-33). On 6 December 1941 the Republic moved from Pearl Harbor to the Aloha Dock in Honolulu. The Republic left immediately after the attack and wandered aimlessly until receiving orders in Fiji to unload in Australia. He was assigned to the Normandy invasion on the USS Burnett County (USS LST-512), which sank en route. Eaton was reassigned to the USS Emmons (DMS-22) and sent to Ulithi Atoll. He gives a detailed account of a five-plane kamikaze attack at Ie Shima in which he was severely wounded. He eventually had both legs amputated as a result of his injuries. Oral History Interview with Burnett Napier, August 28, 2010

The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an oral interview with Burnett Napier. Napier joined the U.S. Navy during his senior year in high school. He was sent to Hospital Corps School to train as a corpsman. Napier then spent six weeks at the Oakland Naval Hospital. He was then sent to the Fleet Marine Force and joined a replacement battalion that was shipped to the Pacific. Napier arrived in Pavuvu and joined the 1st Marine Division. He then landed on Peleliu where his unit experienced heavy casualties. Napier was wounded later in the battle during a mortar barrage. He was evacuated to a ship and then to an Army hospital for treatment. Napier rejoined the 1st Division on Pavuvu which was sent to invade Okinawa soon after. He worked at the battalion aid station until he was sent back to the front due to a shortage of corpsman at the Shuri Line. Napier became ill with dysentery and was evacuated to an Army hospital and wasn’t released until the battle had ended. He traveled with his unit to China after the war had ended and left the service soon after he returned to the States.
