Search for D{sup +} {yields} {pi}{sup +}{mu}{sup +}{mu}{sup {minus}}
Flavor-changing neutral current decays are forbidden in lowest order in the Standard Model. The authors present results of a search for the charm changing neutral current decay D{sup +} {yields} {pi}{sup +}{mu}{sup +}{mu}{sup {minus}} based on the analysis of one third of the data from Fermilab experiment E791, accumulated during the 1991--92 fixed target run with a 500 GeV negative pion beam incident on a segmented target. Assuming that the decay kinematics are the same as for D{sup +} {yields} K{sup {minus}}{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup +}, they set an upper limit on the branching ratio for this channel, B(D{sup +} {yields} {pi}{sup +}{mu}{sup +}{mu}{sup {minus}}) < 4.6 {times} 10{sup {minus}5} at the 90% confidence level.

Production asymmetries in x{sub f} and P{sub t}{sup 2} for D{sup {plus_minus}} mesons
We present differences in leading and non-leading charged D meson production as a doubly-differential function of both P{sup 2}{sub t} and {chi}{integral}. Comparisons to specific models are made. This information is from the analysis of half the data from Fermilab experiment E791, taken during the 1991-2 fixed target run with a 500 GeV/c {pi}{sup {minus}} beam incident on a segmented target.

Results on charm production from E791, a high statistics charm hadroproduction experiment at Fermilab
Fermilab experiment E791 collected a large sample of charm events to study several aspects of charm physics. Many topics on production and decay of charm particles can be covered with this data set. This talk will concentrate on the production asymmetry of charm mesons.

D{sup 0}-{anti D}{sup 0} mixing and doubly Cabibbo-suppressed decays of the D{sup +}
This report summarizes results from Fermilab experiment E791 on D{sup 0}-{anti D}{sup 0} mixing and doubly Cabibbo-suppressed decays of the D{sup +} meson. In order to search for D{sup 0}-{anti D}{sup 0} mixing, the authors use only D{sup 0} mesons from D{sup *+} decays in which case the charge of the pion from the D{sup *+} decay identifies the charm quantum number of the D{sup 0} at birth. When the D{sup 0} decays, the charge of the kaon identifies the charm quantum number and this way one can tell if mixing has occurred. This kind of search can be carried out by CLEO II as well and their conclusion was that there is some evidence of a wrong sign signal (0.77 {+-} 0.25 {+-} 0.25)% of the right sign signal. However, because of a lack of lifetime information, they cannot distinguish between doubly Cabibbo-suppressed decays which are expected at the level of the observed signal and mixing. They use their excellent lifetime sensitivity to obtain separate limits. During the past year, the authors have been working on extracting D{sup +} doubly Cabibbo-suppressed decay signals from E791`s data sample. These decays are interesting both because they have never been observed and …

Preliminary results on the decays D{sup +} {yields} K{sup +} {pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup {minus}}, D{sup +} {yields} K{sup +}K{sup +}K{sup +}
Preliminary results on the Doubly Cabibbo Suppressed Decays (DCSD) D{sup +} {yields} K{sup +}{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup {minus}} and D{sup +} {yields} K{sup +}K{sup +}K{sup {minus}} from roughly 40% of the E791 data set are summarized. The authors present an analysis of candidate events from E791 data in these decay modes. They show that there is a clear signal in the D{sup +} {yields} K{sup +}{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup {minus}} mode and discuss backgrounds and sources of error in the results. They disagree with a published signal level in the D{sup +} {yields} K{sup +}K{sup +}K{sup {minus}} mode.

Production asymmetries in x{sub F} and P{sub t}{sup 2} for D{sup {+-}} mesons
Non-zero asymmetries have been reported in x{sub f} distributions of leading and non-leading charmed mesons produced from hadronic beams. Production models have also been proposed that would explain these asymmetries and make predictions on how these asymmetries will depend on P{sub t}{sup 2}. The authors present differences in leading and non-leading D charged meson production as a doubly differential function of both P{sub t}{sup 2} and x{sub f}. This information is from the preliminary analysis of 1/3 of the data from Fermilab experiment E791. It was taken during the 1991--2 fixed target run using a 500 GeV/c {pi}{sup {minus}} beam incident on a segmented target.
