The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of background knowledge on Thai teachers-college students' reading comprehension in relation to topic familiarity, reading ability in English as a Foreign Language, and the amount of time required for reading familiar and unfamiliar passages.

This qualitative study identified school environment practices in designated school districts in a selected region in the state of Texas based on an accreditation visit from the Texas Education Agency (TEA) in the school year 1988-1989 and identified specific elements of positive school environment that were valued by the TEA.

The purpose of this study was to assess the perceptions of vocational educators as to the degree of achievement by the Vocational Master Plan as mandated by the State Board of Education on January 10, 1987. The educators were selected from vocational administrators, vocational counselors, and vocational teachers throughout the state.

This study examines two methods of in-service preparation for teachers of adult reading. The first method, known as Developing Adult Reading in Texas (DART), uses single concept modules which deal with five specific components of the reading process. The components are Comprehension, Vocabulary, Motivation, Word-Attack Skills, and Diagnosis. The modules provide for teacher involvement and focus on one reading concept at a time. The second method is defined as non-focused reading instruction. Subjects receive information of a general nature concerning the same five components of a reading process. A lecture format is used.

The purposes of this study were to determine freshman composition requirements, to describe organization of writing programs, to describe staffing of writing programs, to identify common textbooks and syllabi requirements, to describe course content and pedagogy, and to describe common goals and philosophies of Texas writing programs.

The problem of this study is to educe and examine philosophical ideas embedded in major models of teacher evaluation. This study is qualitative, involving the presentation and analysis of ideas which affect educational practice.

In this study, a survey instrument measuring knowledge and attitudes about AIDS, information sources about AIDS, and personal behavior was administered to college students. Students completed the survey during a single class period.
