The Effects of Group Membership upon Birth Order Differences in Anxiety and Affiliation (open access)

The Effects of Group Membership upon Birth Order Differences in Anxiety and Affiliation

The present study has a twofold purpose. First, it will attempt to ascertain whether ordinal position remains an effective discriminator of affiliative need and level of anxiety within the selective confines of a strong social organization, a college sorority; or whether the selective criterion of membership in the strong social organization tends to suppress the differences in affiliative need and level of anxiety between the ordinal positions. Secondly, it will attempt to further explore the relationship between affiliation and dependency.

The relationship between church and nation has long been a topic of discussion among those of the Stone-Campbell tradition. Passionate Nation: The Epic History of Texas

Access: Use of this item is restricted to the UNT Community
Utilizing many sources new to publication, James L. Haley delivers a most readable and enjoyable narrative history of Texas, told through stories—the words and recollections of Texans who actually lived the state’s spectacular history. From Jim Bowie’s and Davy Crockett’s myth-enshrouded stand at the Alamo, to the Mexican-American War, and to Sam Houston’s heroic failed effort to keep Texas in the Union during the Civil War, the transitions in Texas history have often been as painful and tense as the “normal” periods in between. Here, in all of its epic grandeur, is the story of Texas as its own passionate nation.

Prenatal Care and Infant Mortality Among Low-Income Adolescent Mothers in a Metropolitan Area (open access)

Prenatal Care and Infant Mortality Among Low-Income Adolescent Mothers in a Metropolitan Area

This study attempted to determine variables significant in predicting use of and changes in use of prenatal care; infant mortality; and the relationship between prenatal care and infant birth weight. The data were collected from birth and death certificates at the Public Health Department in Dallas, Texas. Data were tested using analysis of variance, Scheffe' test, and Chi-square. A mother's age, race, income level, marital status, and parity were found to be significant factors in use of prenatal care, and use of care was found to have begun earlier in recent years. Likewise, birth weight was found to be related to the trimester prenatal care began. Conclusions concerning infant mortality could not be drawn due to insufficient data.
