"Information published in chemical journals from 1933 to 1939 on the thermodynamic properties of the component gases of exhaust gases based on spectroscopic measurements were used as data for computing the ideal values of work, mass flow, nozzle velocity, power, and temperature change involved in the thermodynamic properties of a gas turbine. Curves from which this information can conveniently be obtained are given. An additional curve is included from which the heat flow may be calculated for nonadiabatic processes" (p. 1).

Report presenting design charts for 24S-T aluminum-alloy flat compression panels with longitudinal Z-section stiffeners. It was found that maximum possible structural efficiency with these panels requires closer stiffener spacings than those now in common use.

Report presenting the results of calibrations in axial compression over the strain range 0 to 0.0021 for 15 types of single element multistrand wire strain gages. The majority of gages showed significant differences between the calibration factors for strain increasing and strain decreasing. The majority of the gages were found to have slightly lower factors in compression than in tension.

From Summary: "Pressure distributions determined from high-speed wind-tunnel tests are presented for five NACA airfoil sections representative of both low-drag and conventional types. Section characteristics of lift, drag, and quarter-chord pitching moment are presented along with the measured pressure distributions for the NACA 65sub2-215 (a=0.5), 66sub2-215 (a=0.6), 0015, 23015, and 4415 airfoils for Mach numbers up to approximately 0.85. A critical study is made of the airfoil pressure distributions in an attempt to formulate a set of general criteria for defining the character of high speed flows over typical airfoil shapes. Comparisons are made of the relative characteristics of the low-drag and conventional airfoils investigated insofar as they would influence the high-speed performance and the high-speed stability and control characteristics of airplanes employing these wing sections."

"For a simple diffraction pattern, the time required to calculate interplanar distances from measurements of the pattern is not excessive. If more than a few lines are present, however, or if several patterns are to be studied, it is very advantageous to have available a table giving interplanar spacings directly in terms of the linear measurements made on the film of the lines appearing on the diffraction pattern. The preparation of the table given here was undertaken when the expansion of research activities involving X-ray diffraction techniques indicated that such a table would greatly decrease the time required to analyze diffraction patterns" (p. 1).

"The present report covers tests made on elliptical cylinders with a center support which were subjected to various simple and combined loadings. The tests yielded a series of interaction curves for combined loadings on such cylinders which should be useful in wing nose section analysis" (p. 1).
