Mrs. Petersen was instrumental in acquiring a teacher of organ music, Mr. Anthony Rahe of Houston, Texas, to come to Danevang once a week over a period of time to give lessons to herself and her young assistants - Jeanne Swendsen, Elsie Swendsen, and Wanda Swendsen - who were all students in El Campo High School."

The funeral was held at Dodd Field Chapel at Fort Sam Houston near San Antonio, Texas, and it was officiated by Reverend David W. Schulte. The date of the service is not included. Smith is a veteran of both World War II and the Vietnam War, and he lived from February 16, 1922 to March 6, 2011.
