The Use of the Electrical Conductivity of Graphite as a Radiation Damage and Flux Monitor. Implications of the Results to the General Theory of Radiation Damage
A method for monitoring radiation damage irradiations using the change of the electrical conductivity of graphite is described. Results of monitoring operations in a number of locations are given. An attempt is made to explain the damage rate found in the converter at CP-3. An estimate of the flux spectrum in VT-4 and the converter of CP-3 is made and the damage rate is computed according to theories of Seitz and James. It is found that the experimental results are more in accord with the predictions of Seitz. A number of corrections to James' report, ORNL-307, are noted in an appendix. It is shown that some information about the fast flux spectrum can be inferred from the radiation damage rate.

A Study of the Application of Power-Spectral Methods of Generalized Harmonic Analysis to Gust Loads on Airplanes
Note presenting an examination of the applicability of some results from the theory of generalized harmonic analysis (or power-spectral analysis) to the analysis of gust loads on airplanes in continuous rough air. The general relations for linear systems between power spectrums of a random input disturbance and an output response are used to relate the spectrum of airplane load in rough air to the spectrum of atmospheric gust velocity.

Heat and Momentum Transfer Between a Spherical Particle and Air Streams
Note presenting experimentally determined heat-transfer coefficients for a spherical particle heated by an induction coil in a moving air stream for a range of Reynolds numbers using spheres of various sizes and various air velocities. The skin-friction factor representing the momentum transfer calculated from the boundary-layer theory showed good agreement with the experimental heat-transfer factor except in the lower range of Reynolds numbers studied.

Separation of a Shock Wave Into Elastic and Plastic Waves, and Measurement of the Pressure of the Elastic Wave
"Hydrodynamic theory predicts that if a shock wave in a metal is not too strong it will separate into two waves." This report discusses a modification of the contactor technique to determine the velocities of the two waves simultaneously for samples of steel and tungsten alloy.

The Angular Distribution of the Reaction p + p--d + w+ at 338 Mev
The angular distribution of the reaction p + p--w+ + d has been measured with the meson and deuteron detected in coincidence. Measurements were made at 30' and 90' in the center of mass system for an incident proton energy of 338 Mev. Similar measurements were made at 30', 60' and 90' for 332 Mev protons.

MECHANISMS OF FRACTIONATION
The mechanisms involved in fractionation as measured in samples obtained early from drone planes during the cloud rise or from manned aircraft a few hours later are discussed. A key problem in fractionation is the formation of the precipitate in the cloud, and an attcmpt is made to describe this mechanism. (W.D.M.)
