Report discussing the uranium deposits located in the Miller Hill area of Carbon County, Wyoming. A stratigraphic description of the area is also given.

Note presenting a flight investigation of a three-blade propeller in climb and at high speed to determine the effects of blade power loading. Increasing the blade power coefficient from 0.06 to 0.09 was found to increase the efficiency approximately 8 percent at an airplane Mach number of 0.7 and a propeller-tip Mach number of 1.13. In climb, an increase in power loading over the range of blade power coefficients investigated was shown to reduce efficiency, as a consequence of increased induced drag losses.

"The primary purpose of this report is to present data pertaining to the occurrence, distribution, and geologic environment of deposits of radioactive minerals in California. A secondary purpose is to summarize the information available on occurrences in California and to present a brief description of each radioactive locality that was known prior to 1953."

From introduction: The Bear Valley district is situated in southwestern Idaho, in the drainage of the Middle Fork of the Salmon River (see fig. 1). The placer deposits were drilled by the U. S. Bureau of Mines in 1951 and 1952 to determine their content of monazite and "radioactive black minerals" (here referred to loosely as "radioactive blacks"). The purpose of the study outlined here was to provide a geologic background for an understanding of the origin and distribution of the placer minerals.

From abstract: Uranium-bearing carbonaceous shale and lignite beds are exposed in the Goose Creek district of southern Cassia County, Idaho. The district includes about 150 square miles in Tps. 14 to 16 So, Rs, 20 to 22 E., Boise meridian.

From introduction: This report briefly describes the geologic setting of the Capitol Reef area, uranium deposits, prospecting guides, and plans for continuation of this investigation.

Memorandum presenting a method for calculating the stick-fixed longitudinal stability of a wing-fuselage configuration at subcritical Mach numbers. The method applies to unswept- and swept-wing configurations. The stability parameters estimated by the method show reasonable agreement with the experimental values for the 23 configurations used in the comparison.

Report documenting the systems, operating procedures, and design of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory's gas-cooled reactor.

Report discussing the use of an air concentrator on uraniferous sandstones for producing concentrates with over ten times the amount of uranium as original sandstone. A description of the concentrator, information regarding its operation, results of the concentration, information on the concentrator's applications, and a general summary are included.

From introduction: Field work, begun in the field season of 1951, was continued by the U. S. Geological Survey in the White Canyon area, San Juan County, Utah, from May 1 to October 28, 1952, The objectives of this work were to study the habits and character of uranium deposits in the area, to determine control and guides to ore and suitable areas for physical exploration, and to map and study the ore-bearing and adjacent strata to determine the regional geologic controls and habits of the uranium deposits, The White Canyon project is part of a regional mapping program on the Colorado Plateau being conducted by the Geological Survey on behalf of the U. S. Atomic Energy Commission.

From abstract: In July 1952 an occurrence of autunite was found in the northern part of the Black Hills, South Dakota, during a reconnaissance for radioactive deposits.

Report presenting testing of two rocket-propelled research models to determine the effect of the intersection of thin aerodynamic surfaces and the effect of moderate sweepback of thick aerodynamic surfaces on low-lift buffeting. Results regarding trim changes and drag are also provided. It was discovered that low-lift buffeting may be induced at high subsonic speeds by interference due to the intersection of thin aerodynamic surfaces.

Report presenting a flight investigation of four air-to-air missiles mounted by pylons on a rocket-powered basic wingless buffet-research vehicle to determine the trim, buffet, and drag characteristics of the combination.

From abstract: The Garm-Lamoreaux property, Lemhi County, Idaho is known to have uraninite and zippeite on two of its dumps. The property has been explored by five adits, two of which are now caved, and one of which is partly caved. The country rock is schistose micaceous quartzite and argillaceous quartzite of Belt age. An east-west fault cuts the quartzite, and the Lamoreaux vein, a gold-sulfide-quartz veins occurs in the fault. The uranium minerals are believed to have core from the vein, on the now inaccessible No. 3 level.

The report contains sections on the distribution and geologic setting of the alum shales, stratigraphy and lithology of shales, mineralogy and composition, areal variations in facies, origin, and suggestions for prospecting.

Report discussing the U.S. Geological Survey's investigation for uranium in the Datil area, west-central New Mexico, and in the Cerrillos, Glorieta, and Tecolote districts and the Las Vegas and Colfax Sill areas of north-central to northeastern New Mexico during the fall of 1953. Information regarding the reconnaissance's results is divided by area.

Report presenting a flight and preflight evaluation of an automatic thrust-coefficient control system in a twin-engine ram-jet missile. A flicker-type single-loop servocontrol system is shown to be a usable way of controlling ram-jet thrust coefficients.

"The field of a uniformly loaded wing in subsonic flow is discussed in terms of the acceleration potential. It is shown that, for the design of such wings, the slope of the mean camber surface at any point can be determined by a line integration around the wing boundary. By an additional line integration around the wing boundary, this method is extended to include the case where the local section lift coefficient varies with spanwise location (the chordwise loading at every section still remaining uniform)" (p. 471).

From abstract: The Geological Survey has completed a program of uranium investigation and geologic mapping in the Monument Valley area, Apache and Navajo Counties, Ariz. The program, undertaken on behalf of the 'Atomic Energy Commission, had two principal objectives. The first was to establish prospecting guides for uranium ore deposits. The second objective was to appraise the relative favorableness of formations and areas for the occurrence of uranium deposits in order to select localities that deserve further exploration.
