An Agonizing Evolution: a History of the Texas National Guard, 1900-1945

The National Guard in America began in the Revolutionary War. The Texas units resulted from the earlier concept and emerged in 1835 to resist Mexican oppression. Following achievement of statehood, Texas militiamen served in the Mexican War, the Civil War, and the Spanish-American War. As the twentieth century began, Texans had a long history of service in reserve military organizations in spite of a prevailing attitude of contempt for citizen soldiers held by influential regular army officials.

Trichotomy : An Orchestral Triptych (open access)

Trichotomy : An Orchestral Triptych

Trichotomy is a composition in three movements for full orchestra. The title was chosen to imitate the differences that exist between the individual movements of the work. The composers chosen for quotation (Schoenberg, Berg and Webern) are related by their compositional pitch vocabulary; that is, in these quoted works they are all using twelve-tone technique.

The Madrigals of Claudio Merulo: an Edition of his 1566 and 1604 Books of Five-Voiced Madrigals with Commentary

Rather than generalizing about the works as a whole, each piece was studied on its own merits as well as its relation to Merulo's collective style. Included are translations of the poems and comparative studies of other settings where possible. The entire transcription of the two books of music is gathered into a separate volume to make the music easily accessible for performance.
