The purpose of the study was to investigate freshman music students' identification with expected tasks in music theory class including aural, written, and performance requirements. The second research problem compared students' descriptions with actions in class to determine the presence of role taking (the conscious adherence to a set of behaviors) or role playing (the unconscious assumption of a set of behaviors).

Compliance-Gaining Among Anglo and Mexican-American Children

This study investigates compliance-gaining rhetoric among Anglo and Mexican-American fourth graders in three schools in north Texas. The children were asked to respond to a scenario and to give a rationale for their persuasive strategies. An analysis of interviews with 52 children indicates that although the children used some similar strategies when attempting to gain compliance from an adult, there are also some significant differences between the two cultural groups.

This study addresses the question of cross-country standardization of advertising by identifying existing cross-national differences in magazine advertisements. A content analysis of 1,983 advertisements in business, women's and general interest magazines was performed. The sample included 1989 and 1990 magazine issues from the United States, United Kingdom, France, India and South Korea.

This thesis is a close textual analysis of three videotapes produced at Texas Instruments. The first chapter outlines the background of corporate video and some of the methods used in the analysis. Chapter II discusses the origins of televisual conventions and traces their migration to the corporate sector's video production efforts. Chapter III is the analysis of three videotapes produced at Texas Instruments. Chapter IV contains conclusions and discussion of the findings, including how cultural myths are articulated and produced, The appendix contains freeze frame examples of the shows analyzed and representative frames from Father Knows Best and The Donna Reed Show for use as a basis of comparison.

The purpose of this research was to study children's ability to recognize partially occluded images. Tasks were constructed which consisted of occluded images from video games, trademarks, and household objects. The tasks were administered to third and sixth grade students at two elementary schools in Arlington, Texas. The researcher discovered no significant differences between the scores of males and females except for the males' higher score on the video game task .

This research effort focused on developing a process model to include art in the individualized education programs (IEPs) of physically handicapped and health impaired students which followed guidelines prescribed by Public Law 94-142. A systems approach was utilized for the development of the model. The sequence of interrelated tasks involved stating needs, identifying the problem, assessing the resources, identifying the population sample, establishing definitions of disabilities, specifying objectives, defining methodologies, developing a programmatic plan, conducting the operational phase, evaluating and refining the model.
