BOUND PERIODICAL HOLDINGS BATTELLE - NORTHWEST LIBRARY

This report lists the bound periodicals in the Technical Library at the Pacific Northwest Laboratory, operated by Battelle Memorial Institute. It was prepared from a computer program and is arranged in two parts. Part one is an alphabetical list of journals by title; part two is an arrangement of the journals by subject. The list headings are self-explanatory, with the exception of the title code, which is necessary in the machine processing. The listing is complete through June, 1966 and updates an earlier publication issued in March, 1965.

Holweck Type Mollecular Pump (open access)

Holweck Type Mollecular Pump

The general design of a Holweck-type molecular pump is considered. The design consists of a stationary helical pumping groove cut inside a cylindrical bore and a closely fitting smooth cylindrical rotor spinning concentrically inside this housing. Approximate analytical expressions were obtained for the pumping speed and ultimate pressure ratio of this type pump. (J.R.D.)

A Tentative Estimation of Man's Tolerance to Overpressures From Air Blast. Technical Progress Report (open access)

A Tentative Estimation of Man's Tolerance to Overpressures From Air Blast. Technical Progress Report

Tentative estimates of the sharp''-rising overpressures as a function of duration which represent a lethal hazard to the 70-kg animal 1, 50, and 99% of the time were presented. The predictions were based on interspecies correlations and extrapolations encompassing blast-tolerance data for six mammalian species. The tentative application of the data to indicate human blast tolerance was discussed and relevant uncertainties in the estimates were emphasized. It was also pointed out that biologic tolerance would be different for air-blast pulses having non-ideal wave forms frequently associated with various geometries of exposure. Selected pathophysiological information pertinent to the biological response following blast exposure was given; namely, survival time and selected postshot observations of dogs and goats. (auth)

Delayed Gamma Rays From Fission. Technical Report, August 1, 1965-July 31, 1966. (open access)

Delayed Gamma Rays From Fission. Technical Report, August 1, 1965-July 31, 1966.

Measurements of the energy spectrum of delayed gamma rays from the neutron fission of Pu$sup 239$ and U$sup 235$ were performed with a NaI detector at a number of time intervals between 2 μsec and 80 μsec. The data showed three new prominent gamma rays with energies of 205, 390, and 1330 keV; two unresolved gamma rays having energies of approximately 110 keV; and the six gamma rays with energies of 260, 460, 720, 850, 910, and 1250 keV which were observed in previous studies for t > 50 μsec after fission. Absolute intensities of the new gamma rays were obtained using the normalization factor derived the relative intensities of the last six gamma rays and their previously determined absolute intensities. The 205-, 390-, and the 1330-keV gamma rays probably result from the cascade decay of a single isomer which has a half life of 3.4±0.4 μsec and fission yield of 1.30±0.32 and 0.63±0.21 percent per fission of Pu$sup 239$ and U$sup 235$, respectively. Half lives and yields were also obtained for the two 110-keV gamma rays, but the results are tentative because of uncertainties in the data. The fission yields, cascade gamma rays, and half lives' of the isomers …
