A Comparison of the Effects of Four Selected Programs of Physical Education with Regard to Physical Fitness and Attitude Toward Physical Education

The problem of this study was the determination of the relationship between four selected programs of physical education and (a) physical fitness, and (b) attitude toward physical education among low-physically-fit freshman and sophomore male college students.

Evolution of the Executive Offices of the Continental Navy

This study consists of five chapters. Chapter 1 is a study of the motives and intent of Congress in creating a navy. Chapters 2 and 3 examine the operations conducted by the Marine Committee, Chapter 2 being devoted to its early operations and Chapter 3 to its later operations. Chapters 4 and 5 examine, in turn, the work of the Board of Admiralty and the Agency of Marine.

A Systematic Approach to Corporate Planning (open access)

A Systematic Approach to Corporate Planning

The fundamental purpose of this dissertation is to determine the extent to which many of the corporations within the United States are implementing formalized planning processes. The conditions surrounding the corporation have caused the movement toward a more systematic approach to corporate planning since there appears to be no better substitute for a formalized planning process to help assure the survival and growth of the firm.

I. THE THEORY OF ABERRATIONS OF QUADRUPOLE FOCUSING ARRAYS. II. ION OPTICAL DESIGN OF HIGH QUALITY EXTRACTED SYNCHROTRON BEAMS WITH APPLICATION TO THE BEVATRON (open access)

I. THE THEORY OF ABERRATIONS OF QUADRUPOLE FOCUSING ARRAYS. II. ION OPTICAL DESIGN OF HIGH QUALITY EXTRACTED SYNCHROTRON BEAMS WITH APPLICATION TO THE BEVATRON

In Part One they formulate in a general way the problem of analyzing and evaluating the aberrations of quadrupole magnet beam systems, and of characterizing the shapes and other properties of the beam envelopes in the neighborhood of foci. They consider all aberrations, including those due to misalignments and faulty construction, through third order in small parameters, for quadrupole beam systems. One result of this study is the development of analytic and numerical techniques for treating these aberrations, yielding useful expressions for the comparison of the aberrations of different beam systems. A second result of this study is a comprehensive digital computer program that determines the magnitude and nature of the aberrations of such beam systems. The code, using linear programming techniques, will adjust the parameters of a beam system to obtain specified optical properties and to reduce the magnitude of aberrations that limit the performance of that system. They examine numerically, in detail, the aberrations of two typical beam systems. In Part Two, they examine the problem of extracting the proton beam from a synchrotron of 'H' type magnet construction. They describe the optical studies that resulted in the design of an external beam from the Bevatron that is …

British Opponents of the Great War (open access)

British Opponents of the Great War

The intensely divided but vocal minority that denounced Great Britain's declaration of war in 1914 and decried Britain's continuance in the war illustrated both the strengths and weaknesses of their nation's politics and the impotence of dissent against a majority united in arms.

A Study to Identify Industrial Arts Skills and Understandings Needed by Graduates of Pampa High School Seeking Employment in Gray County, Texas (open access)

A Study to Identify Industrial Arts Skills and Understandings Needed by Graduates of Pampa High School Seeking Employment in Gray County, Texas

"The study sought to answer the following questions: 1. What skills and understandings may be acquired in industrial arts courses as described in Principles and Standards for Accrediting Elementary and Secondary Schools that might be helpful to youth seeking employment in the Pampa area? 2. What is the current industrial arts program in the Pampa Independent School district? 3. What skills and understandings receive the greatest emphasis in the Pampa industrial arts program? 4. What skills and understandings associated with industrial arts do Gray County employers recommend as being helpful in the performance of jobs for which terminal students might be considered? 5. What are the employment opportunities in Gray County for Pampa Independent School District terminal students?" --p. 4

Blend in Choral Sound (open access)

Blend in Choral Sound

There is a need for a systematic collection of ideas concerning blend in choral sound. Many authorities discuss blend, but their concepts of the term are very divergent. These divergent concepts lead to emphasis of various factors which are important to the development or achievement of blend in choral sound. This emphasis in turn leads to various methods of achieving blend. Authorities ascribe several definitions to the term blend, as it relates to choral tone. These definitions should be studied collectively in order that a clearer concept of the term blend in choral sound may be developed. In studying blend in choral sound, several factors are generally deemed important. No study has been made which leads to a consensus concerning the relative importance of these factors. Scientific studies have been made of these factors, but the results have not been compiled and presented in one source. Authorities employ various methods in working with the factors which affect blend in choral sound. No study has been made which includes these methods. It is hoped that this study will contribute to the collecting and organizing of ideas regarding blend, including its various definitions and its important factors. It is also hoped that …

The Effects of Multisensory Perceptual Training on Reading and Perceptual Development at the First-Grade Level (open access)

The Effects of Multisensory Perceptual Training on Reading and Perceptual Development at the First-Grade Level

This was a study designed to investigate the effects of three independent variables in first-grade reading instruction on reading achievement and perceptual development. The independent variables included initial readiness level, type of instructional method, and sex of pupil. The major purpose of this study was to use an experimental setting to determine the relative effects of a multi-sensory perceptual training program combined with a basal-instruction program, as contrasted to an entirely conventional basal-reading program, on first-grade reading achievement and perceptual development during a school year.

An Analysis of the Motivational Content of Current Basal Reader Stories

The problem was to compare the motivational elements of basal reader stories of the past with those of the present. The purpose of the problem were 1) to determine the motivational content as represented by thema found in current basal reader stories and 2) to find differences, if any, between motivational content basal reader stories and findings of previous research.

The Music of Anton Webern (open access)

The Music of Anton Webern

In this study, the Anton Webern's music is considered in two groups: that which was written before Webern adopted the twelve-tone technique, Opp 1-16, and that written in the twelve-tone technique, Opp. 17-31. This division is not intended to represent an attempt at periodization of Webern's music, for the changes of style in Op. 17 are not that significant. But the fact that Webern employed the twelve-tone technique in all the works he wrote after Op. 16 makes this a natural point of division for a study of this sort. Besides the music of Webern, two peripheral areas are included in this study. No attempt has been made at an exhaustive biography of Webern, but facts relative to his life, and impressions about the person are presented. Also, to create a proper perspective for the study of Webern's which existed during the time that Webern lived and composed, is presented.
