The major problem to be investigated consists of four phases: 1) the investigation of the relationship of sociempathic ability to self concept, sociometric status, mental ability, student teaching, and teaching effectiveness of elementary and secondary student teachers, and the relationship between sociometric status and self concept; 2) an investigation of the relationship of self concept and sociometric status to the teaching effectiveness of elementary and secondary student teachers; 3) a comparison of elementary and secondary student teachers on the strength of the relationships mentioned above, and on mean scores in self concept, sociempathic ability and mental ability; and 4) an investigation to determine if differences in self concept ratings exist among subject major groups of secondary student teachers, and to determine if there are differences between the sexes with regard to sociempathic ability.

Collective Thomson scattering from ion-acoustic waves at 266nm is used to obtain spatially resolved, two-dimensional electron density, sound speed, and radial drift profiles of a collisional laser plasma. An ultraviolet diagnostic wavelength minimizes the complicating effects of inverse bremsstrahlung and refractive turning in the coronal region of interest, where the electron densities approach n{sub c}/10. Laser plasmas of this type are important because they model some of the aspects of the plasmas found in high-gain laser-fusion pellets irradiated by long pulse widths where the laser light is absorbed mostly in the corona. The experimental results and LASNEX simulations agree within a percent standard deviation of 40% for the electron density and 50% for the sound speed and radial drift velocity. Thus it is shown that the hydrodynamics equations with classical coefficients and the numerical approximations in LASNEX are valid models of laser-heated, highly collisional plasmas. The versatility of Thomson scattering is expanded upon by extending existing theory with a Fokker-Planck based model to include plasmas that are characterized by (0 {le} k{sub ia}{lambda}{sub ii} {le} {infinity}) and ZT{sub e}/T{sub i}, where k{sub ia} is the ion- acoustic wave number, {lambda}{sub ii} is the ion-ion mean free path, Z is the …

Thesis. The heat capacity of the system (La,Ce)Al//sub 2/ for 0.0, 0.193, 0.64, and 0.906 at.% Ce has been measured between approximately 0.06 and 22 K and in magnetic fields up to 38 kOe. In the normal state, there is R1n2 entropy associated wtih the Ce spin system and this entropy is removed in the formation of the spin-compensated state. The nonmal state Kondo temperature is 0.42 K. The three more-dilute samples exhibit supenconductivity but cannot be described by the Bardeen - Cooper -- Schrieffer on Abrlkosov -Gor'kov theories. Significant low-energy excitations are evident in the superconducting state and they may be associated with quasibound states deep in the energy gap of the pure superconductor. Fon the 0.193 at.% Ce alloy in the superconducting state the characteristic temperature associated with Ce-spin ordering in the nonmal state is reduced by an estimated order of magnitude. For the 0.64 at.% Ce alloy a small, broadened superconducting anomaly appears in the heat capacity above 1 K, however, no anomaly that could be interpreted as a broadened discontinuity was found at the magnetically-detected transition back into the normal state at lower temperatures. The design of this experiment was developed to investigate the presence of success-striving and failure-avoidant motivational patterns in the level of aspiration behavior of retarded subjects. The primary objective of this study is to show that success-strivers are present in mentally retarded groups, even if in the minority.

The purpose of this study is to record critical opinion of the poem from the contemporary reviews of 1798 to the intensive critical analysis of the 1960's.

In accordance with theories of Carmichael (19), Lecky (41), and Rogers (55), which suggest that adolescence is a time of redefining conceptions about one's self in relation to values, groups, and institutions in one's environment, the following hypotheses were proposed to be investigated in this study: 1. The difference between mothers' and fathers' self-concept scores is nonsignificant. 2. Parents have higher self-concepts than their children. 3. Parents of children with high self-concepts will differ significantly from parents of children with low self-concepts with respect to their values.

The problem of the present study was to determine the relationship between role-preferences of experienced elementary school teachers and their attitudes toward certain behavior problems of children.

The purpose of this study is to conduct an examination of the concept of comprehensive health planning the type of which is mandatory if society is ever to realize comprehensive health services for the multitude of people in that society.

The present study has a threefold purpose. First, it will attempt to investigate whether the presentation of the bogus group norm is effective to exert influence on an individual subject to modify his original response in the direction of the norm. Secondly, it will investigate relationships between the subject's level of test anxiety and his conformity behavior in the simple judgmental situation. Thirdly, it will further explore whether test anxiety, as measured by a questionnaire, and low self-esteem, as measured by feelings of personal inadequacy, are comparable constructs.

There are two major purposes of this study. First, it will attempt to ascertain whether self-concept, as measured by a self-concept scale, will fluctuate significantly due to a recent ego inflating or deflating experience, and if so, how lasting and in what areas are the effects. Secondly, it will note whether or not the low self-concept individual is more susceptible to changes in self-concept due to these environmental changes than the high self-concept individual.

The primary significance of this inquiry is as a contribution to the continuing effort to categorize socialization studies and thereby to make more useful the accumulation of empirical knowledge in the field. This thesis presents a summary of sociological studies of socialization in the 1960's. It reviews articles published between January 1, 1960 and December 31, 1967.
