This study will focus on the role of George Perkins in the development and decline of the Progressive Party. Theodore Roosevelt is often at the center of this story for the Bull Moose and the Progressives were closely intertwined. Ultimately, the inconsistencies of the master-politician Roosevelt and the detrimental influence of Perkins contributed to the downfall of the Progressive Party of 1912.

The elements Sn, Mg, Ti, Zr, Hf, Si, Cd, and U were alloyed with plutonium to determine their effect on stabilization of the beta phase. Zirconium was found to be the ' most effective. Kinetic studies were conducted on Pu-Zr alloys having 0.24, 0.65, and 1.7 at.% Zr contents. The beta to alpha transformation in the Pu-Zr alloys was somewhat similar to that in unalloyed plutonium. The main difference being that time, temperature, transformation curves of the alloys were shifted to the right as the zirconium concentration increased. It was determined that the amount of beta phase retained at room temperature increased as the zirconium concentration increased. The minimum amount of Zr needed to stabilize the beta phase of plutonium at room temperature was determined to be 2.0 at.%. A 2.4 at.% Zr addition stabilized the beta phase of plutonium at atmospheric pressure from room temperature to 265 deg C. During mechanical property testing it was determined that the stabilized beta Pu-2.4 at.% Zr alloy was brittle from room temperature to 230 deg C. While various studies have related susceptibility to the Mueller-Lyer illusion to mental health, to developmental maturity, and to self-differentiation, there have been no studies in which susceptibility to the illusion has been related to a wide spectrum of self-concept dimensions. It is one of the purposes of the present study to analyze susceptibility to the Mueller-Lyer illusion as a function of errors in self-perception. To the extent that an individual suffers conflicts with regard to his self-concept, in any of its significant dimensions, it is expected that he will suffer a greater susceptibility to the illusion.

The problem of this study was an investigation of the relationships among the attitudes, critical thinking ability,and personality attributes of students in a teacher education program.

The purposes of this study were to determine the perceptions of college and university presidents concerning the role of intercollegiate athletics in higher education, to identify the various similarities and differences regarding the role of intercollegiate athletics as perceived by college and university presidents, and to provide useful data for college administrators, faculty, and staff to utilize when implementing new programs of operation or when evaluating existing practices.

The major problem to be investigated consists of four phases: 1) the investigation of the relationship of sociempathic ability to self concept, sociometric status, mental ability, student teaching, and teaching effectiveness of elementary and secondary student teachers, and the relationship between sociometric status and self concept; 2) an investigation of the relationship of self concept and sociometric status to the teaching effectiveness of elementary and secondary student teachers; 3) a comparison of elementary and secondary student teachers on the strength of the relationships mentioned above, and on mean scores in self concept, sociempathic ability and mental ability; and 4) an investigation to determine if differences in self concept ratings exist among subject major groups of secondary student teachers, and to determine if there are differences between the sexes with regard to sociempathic ability.

The design of this experiment was developed to investigate the presence of success-striving and failure-avoidant motivational patterns in the level of aspiration behavior of retarded subjects. The primary objective of this study is to show that success-strivers are present in mentally retarded groups, even if in the minority.

This study has as its objectives: (1) the determination of the degree of relationship between achievement in the study of English as measured by a standardized English achievement test and achievement in the study of foreign languages as measured by teacher's grades; (2) the determination of the amount of contribution to such a relationship of the achievement in various functional areas in the study of English as measured by the subtests of the English achievement test.
