From Introduction: "This volume contains the descriptions of the samples whose analyses are published in the preceding volume, Part I of this bulletin. The descriptions have been compiled from the notebooks of the persons who collected the samples, have been condensed from accounts given in published reports of the United States Geological Survey, or have furnished by the collection themselves. Inasmuch as the descriptions represent the work of many persons during a period of six years, and inasmuch as they were recorded under widely differing conditions, they necessarily vary in fullness detail."

National Uranium Resource Evaluation, Flagstaff Quadrangle, Arizona (open access)

National Uranium Resource Evaluation, Flagstaff Quadrangle, Arizona

From purpose and scope: The purpose of this study is to identify and delineate areas favorable for the occurrence of uranium deposits "which could contain at least 100 metric tons of U308 with an average grade of not less than 100 ppm U308". The study was limited to depths of less than 1500 m (5000 ft). No attempt was made to make the economics of recovering uranium a criterion for selecting favorable areas, except that the uranium be in a "mineable configuration".

Uranium in the Black Rock District Yavapai County, Arizona (open access)

Uranium in the Black Rock District Yavapai County, Arizona

From abstract: A radioactivity survey of the Black Rock district in southern Yavapai County, Ariz, disclosed anomalous radioactivity in several localities, chiefly at the Abe Lincoln mine in sec. 11, T. 8 N., R. 3 W., about 14 road miles northeast of Wickenburg. The Abe Lincoln vein system occupies a fault zone which strikes N. 500 E. and dips from 780 to 870 NW. Moderate radioactivity is present at the Bracken property and at several other localities in the Black Rock district. The writers recommend re-opening the Abe Lincoln mine to permit a more extensive examination of the vein.

Evaluation of depleted uranium in the environment at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland and Yuma Proving Grounds, Arizona. Final report (open access)

Evaluation of depleted uranium in the environment at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland and Yuma Proving Grounds, Arizona. Final report

This report represents an evaluation of depleted uranium (DU) introduced into the environment at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds (APG), Maryland and Yuma Proving Grounds (YPG) Arizona. This was a cooperative project between the Environmental Sciences and Statistical Analyses Groups at LANL and with the Department of Fishery and Wildlife Biology at Colorado State University. The project represents a unique approach to assessing the environmental impact of DU in two dissimilar ecosystems. Ecological exposure models were created for each ecosystem and sensitivity/uncertainty analyses were conducted to identify exposure pathways which were most influential in the fate and transport of DU in the environment. Research included field sampling, field exposure experiment, and laboratory experiments. The first section addresses DU at the APG site. Chapter topics include bioenergetics-based food web model; field exposure experiments; bioconcentration by phytoplankton and the toxicity of U to zooplankton; physical processes governing the desorption of uranium from sediment to water; transfer of uranium from sediment to benthic invertebrates; spead of adsorpion by benthic invertebrates; uptake of uranium by fish. The final section of the report addresses DU at the YPG site. Chapters include the following information: Du transport processes and pathway model; field studies of performance of exposure …
