Abstract: "Formulas are derived for the trajectory of a charged particle in a magnetic field which is a linear function of time. Graphs of certain functions are presented, by means of which a trajectory with given initial position and velocity may be plotted."

During an experiment involving alpha phase annealing (at 610 to 655 deg C for 5 and 10 min) of beta-quenched uranium, it was determined that the relatively coarse, irregular shaped grains (0.08 to 0.150 mm in diameter) in the beta-quenched structure, were replaced by fine equiaxed grains (0.04 to 0.09 mm in diameter). This chapter presents the highlights of the fabrication and heat treatment of uranium with emphasis on HAPO type core material. For pile use three properties of uranium are of prime interest; grain size, type and degree of preferred orientation, and the mechanical properties.

Thorium is determined in uranium alloys by means of a fluoride separation followed by a complexometric titration. A nitric of hydrochloric acid solution of the alloy is neutralized to a pH of 2.0 to 3.0 and the thorium precipitated as thorium fluoride by the addition of hydrofluoric acid and ammonium fluoride using lanthanum as a carrier.

Abstract: "A theoretical criterion is given for the conditions under which the ions from an ion source may be decelerated by a decelerating grid, following the accelerating grid which extracts ions from the emitter, without causing a reduction in the current supplied by the source."

Report discussing a study on the radioactivity of red and green phase Conway granite from Redstone, New Hampshire. Information regarding the collection and measurement methods are included as well as experimental data and calculations.

Metallographic examination of an irradiated powder metal uranium slug from PT-313-105-4M⁽¹⁾ was undertaken primarily as an evaluation of recently remotized metallographic equipment. It was, also, proposed to compare the grain size with values obtained ultrasonically on the same slug. It was further proposed to make a comparison, so far as limited data permitted, of post-irradiated powder metal uranium grain size with that to be expected from normal uranium similarly irradiated.

This report presents results on radiation monitoring from the radiological sciences department for January, 1955. Information is presented concerning radioactive effluent releases, personnel skin contamination, air sampling, and general radiation monitoring from the facilities.

This report provides the results to an airborne radiometric reconnaissance made in central Montana, the Sweetgrass Hills and Arch area, and Clancy area of the Boulder batholith that was completed in October 1953. This report is divided into three parts, each area is discussed separately according to its geology, the airborne procedures employed, and the conclusions reached.

The following report covers a diamond drilling project in December 1952 that was started in order to obtain geologic and mining information and samples of uranium-bearing Chattanooga shale in the Youngs Bend area, near Smithville, Tennessee. This report presents uranium content discovered within the mines.

The spectrum of electrons arising from the decay of the negative mu meson has been determined. The muons are arrested in the gas of a high pressure hydrogen filled diffusion cloud chamber. The momenta of the decay electrons are determined from their curvature in a magnetic field of 7750 gauss. The spectrum of 415 electrons has been analyzed according to the theory of Michel. The shape parameter, {rho}, is found to be 0.64 {plus_minus} .10. The significance of this result in terms of the beta interaction is discussed.

"A two-dimensional investigation utilizing pressure-distribution measurements and schileren photographs has been made of the flow and force characteristics of slab-sided airfoils of 2-percent thickness at transonic Mach numbers. The airfoils had various combinations of elliptically shaped leading and trailing edges from a fineness ratio of 0 to 10. The aerodynamic characteristics and an analysis of the flow past the models are presented" (p. 1).
